We have scaffold up for another week or two and it just occurred to me to run ethernet on the outside of the house. Please tell me everything I need to know.

Is there good quality outdoor-rated cable that will actually last? How do I clip it to the render? Or is conduit necessary. If so can people recommend examples.

Is this even a good idea? The layout of the house makes internal wiring a bit of a pain so this might be the easiest thing to do.

If conduit is out of the question then an external grade Cat6 cable will be fine. For attaching it to the building use suitable size cable clips (I find co-ax clips are perfect for Cat6) and use pin plugs - don't try and clip straight into the render or mortar, it will make a huge mess.

Definitely a good idea whilst you have the scaffolding. I would be inclined to wire in more than one cable at a time, say a two gang into the room. For very little extra effort you will have a backup in case one of the external cables fails for some reason (unlikely) and save having to deal with switches at the other end.
