want to buy an external hdd to take away with me for a huge trip but am worried about the voltage change over there. My laptop works as the plug says 100-240v but I am unsure about an ext hdd.

any ideas?

The bump will do you no favours, especially after an hour. People do read these forums and help wherever possible. If someone doesnt know the answer they wont reply. All i can suggest is do the same as you did for your laptop. check the external hdd and check the voltage rating. It all depends on the hdd.

i did realise the bump was after a small time but it had almost dropped off the first page because of poepels spec me threads.

thanks blitz

if your really worried go with one of the ones that draws power through your usb ports then it wont matter

ah good idea, is there a disadvantage of these types of drives then, will be using it with my pc when i get back too.

there usually a bit more pricy and slightly less space as they use 2.5" laptop drives but apart from that there good
