Running Eyefinity off 2 HD6970'S, help!

Hi all,

Currently running 3 screens off my 2 HD6970'S in crossfire mode, two connected to DVI ports, and one through the mini display port (to active DVI-D port). I wish to run a 2nd desktop so to speak, seperate from my eyefinity triple screen display. I've been told that this is achievable by simply connecting a further monitor to the 2nd mini display port.

Hence, I've connected a BenQ G925HDA 18.5" Widescreen LCD monitor from VGA -> VGA TO DVI-D ADAPTOR -> Active mini dislay port to DVI-D. When browsing throgh both CCC and windows control panel in display settings, the 4th monitor is picked up, and recognised, yet does not display anything and doesn't display for example teh dispaly number when I press identify on the windows display options.

I'm wondering if its because VGA cannot be connected to active mini display port or if there's something I've missed out on?

Any help would be appreciated!

Julian

If you're connecting VGA to DVI-D then that won't work.

DVI-D is a digital signal only, there's no analogue output for VGA.

You probably need to use a straight miniDP to VGA (active?) adapter.

Bare in mind in Crossfire you can only have the primary monitor/eyefinity group running, with any other monitors in extended mode disabled. Hence because of this you might as well connect the BenQ to the second 6970 and disable crossfire when you want to use it.

Good point! In that case would it be possible to create some sor tof hotkey so that I could toggle between crossfire mode through my keyboard rather than having to open CCC in my gaming screen to disable crossfire mode again and gain control of my benQ monitor?

Cheers

Julian

CCC has profiles that you can apply hotkeys to, get there on the CCC page click Options -> Profiles -> Profiles Manager

Also with the DP to VGA question, all DP to VGA converters are 'active'...

Hmmm I seem to have the newer version that has presets rather than profiles. I tried to set up the two different desktop configs and save into their respective presets, including hotkeys, but nothing seems to happen when i try active either! I've had a search through google and afew people say the same, any help?

Investigating alittle further, it seems that my version of CCC (11.6) does not allow crossfire mode changes in presets, but seems to work fine for all other config changes...Has anyone else experienced this? I guess I'll have to do it manually each time I want to run the game????
