Hi,

Im wondering it it's safe to run F@H on a PIV 1800 laptop, will the cooling fan be sufficient or will it be likely to overheat by running it at 100% load constantly? I currently run it on a house of PC's.

Thanks,
ghgh

I'll need to know exactly which version of the P4 that is - Northwood or Wiliamette, Mobile or Desktop.

If you're not sure, download and run CPU-Z and let us know the results.

Its a 'Mobile Intel Pentium 4 - M CPU 1.80 GHz' Northwood.
Thanks again

I have a laptop with a standard desktop AMD ClawHammer in it. It's reached 90°C before :D was a little clogged up. At the moment it averages 73 - 76.

Eggfriend CPU anyone? :p

Well, at least it's a mobile chip, not a 'oh we can slap a desktop chip in there with a weeny heatsink because we're cheapskates'.

Be prepared for it to get hot. Keep it well-ventilated, away from soft furnishings, raised off the desk a bit if you can (but don't risk it getting knocked off whatever you use to raise it).

Give it a blast of prime95 or somesuch, and see how it takes the heat.

StressCPU is pretty good for heating things up a bit - it also uses part of the Gromacs code to really push those parts that Prime tests just can't reach

there's also no install program so just run it and there's no messing :D
just keep an eye on temps :o
