Not sure if this the right forum but I've just got meself a 22" monitor with a native res of 1680 x 1050, but the only option I get in the menu is 1280 x 960. Is there a way of altering the "ini" file or whatever to force an ingame res option of 1680 x 1050?
Is there an update/patch that fixes this, or some other method?
Cheers.

Find setting.cfg

stick this in it.

"GammaB" "1.000000"
"GammaG" "1.000000"
"GammaR" "1.000000"
"BitDepth" "32"
"HardwareCursor" "1.000000"
"ScreenWidth" "1680"
"VSyncOnFlip" "1.000000"
"DeviceName" "\\.\DISPLAY1"
"ScreenHeight" "1050"

Make the file read only. If you don't and accidentally go in the video menu it will over right it. Change the gamma values from here as well. Small changes like 1.03. Vsync is on/1 or off/0

I've tried looking for this config file but no way can I find it. I've checked on that "widescreen" forum and even tried the target line to find it, but still no joy. Got me confused that has 'cos even the windows search function can't find it.

from here ^^^^

you can get to - http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Master_Games_List_-_F

then - http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5713

which leads to 2 main options:

1)
This game supports widescreen resolutions using Hor+ by way of editing the settings.cfg to support your widescreen resolution.

To do this, open the file
<bootdisk>:\Documents and Settings\All Users\[Shared] Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR\settings.cfg
using Notepad or a suitable text editing program.

Locate the following lines:
"ScreenWidth" "xxxx"
"ScreenHeight" "yyyy"

Change "xxxx" to your horizontal resolution and "yyyy" to your vertical resolution.

For example, to change the resolution to 1680x1050 the lines would read:
"ScreenWidth" "1680"
"ScreenHeight" "1050"

Once you have edited these lines to your specific resolution, save the file and reopen the game. It should now be running in the resolution you entered. The game will automatically increase the horizontal FOV for your resolution.

Note: Do not go into the Display section of the Options menu. Doing so will reset the resolution to 640x480

2)

Eh?

The 1.08 patch gives NATIVE widesceen support.

The first "patch" that I linked to is for going from 1.07 to 1.08. You NEED to be at 1.07 to use that "patch".

The second patch that I linked to is the "proper" 1.08" patch, which will upgrade you to 1.08, even if you haven't patched to 1.07 already.

Sorry if my earlier post was confusing....

I also said how to do that too :)

To do this, open the file
<bootdisk>:\Documents and Settings\All Users\[Shared] Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR\settings.cfg
using Notepad or a suitable text editing program.

But surely if he's having difficulty finding the file, then its worth patching to 1.08 and not having to worry about the config file.

Anyway the only reason I posted again was because I didn't understand what you meant by this
Mine, but it is 1.07
.

Either way there should be enough info here for the guy to sort his problem now :D

Just an update, the patch has given me widescreen support so I'm a happy bunny now :) . Thanks for all the help guys.
I've reinstalled FEAR, so I'll have another go at trying to find that file for the expansion pack when I get it.

update: I found this file eventually! It wasn't where I read it was supposed to be. I was looking in "documents and settings" where its supposed to be but wasn't, but found it in "shared documents" in the "monolith" folder. Still I suppose perseverance pays off in the end.
