right my current setup is as follows

Server: win2k3 R2 along with exchange server
Main PC: Vista RC1 / XP SP2
Secondary PC: XP SP2

these are interconnected using a netgear DG834 router 10/100 connection and each computer logs onto the domain etc

ive just bought 2 intel pro 1000 adapters and want to run a connection between my main pc and the server in order to transfer data faster

now can i just install the gigabit nics onto both the server and my main pc and do away with my main pc's connection to the router altogether? thus passing all requests thru the server?
or would it be best to maintain the 10/100 connection to the router and have a seperate gigabit link and if so how could i configure this to work ahead of the 10 / 100 link?

ive worked with stuff like this before but only in linux, not sure how this applies to windows setups?

the more i think about it the more i think that the gigabit connection will work ok?

help please im going nuts :D

My server is connected directly to my desktop via gigabit to gigabit, bypassing the router for extra speed ;) It works fine. My desktop has 2 nics [built in] which I bridged to allow the server to access the internet via the desktop.
It might be a bodge job or the correct way but it works ;)

sounds good, how are the IP addresses affected by bridging the two nics together?
ideally i want the desktop and server to maintain there current static IP adresses as this will make it easier to maintain the active directory and exchange server setup

cheers :D

Buy a Gigabit switch they arn't that much but yeah a bridge is the best way, you don't want to have 2 lots of NAT running (using ICS).
