Hi guys,

after being pestered by my house mate to try MP, I finally got round to doing it. First obstacle that hit me was an error saying that the program won't run on a 64 bit platform. No probs, I thought and booted up XP Mode. The installation went smoothly, but then as I launched the game I got another error saying that MP requires DX8 compatible hardware. This is something I was unable to solve sadly so I'm turning to you lot for aid - what can I do to make it run?

I purchased the copy again through Steam because the retail copy kept giving me the same error messages you have op. You will also need to download a sound patch to fix the sound when viewing the cutscenes/comic strip scenes because the sound doesn't play as it took a certain feel to the game away without having sound during those scenes.

my housemate has MP and runs it fine on W7 64, had it from Steam in the sale not long back, played straight away without any problems

My steam version works on windows 7 64bit. Ah yes the cut-scene sound bug. I remember that now. There was a way you could pause and unpause and the sound would work. I can't remember exactly. The in-game sound was unaffected.

Sorry, it's the retail version.

I had the same issue with the retail version when installing again recently. A little look on google will soon find what you need, it's a little tool/patch that converts all the sound files for you so they'll run properly.

I've not had any problems since doing this although I'm still fairly early in the game but seems fine so far.

The retail version runs fine for me too, although many people have problems running Max Payne across a variety of operating systems with the latest hardware and nobody seems to be able to tell why. You're one of the unlucky ones.
