Hi all,

Client of mine cannot stand the way 2007 and 2010 works, so hes very much a 2003 man.

Now, for some reason, the office converter will not work on his laptop, and reformatting is a bit out of the question as hes constantly using it for business use.

He runs a recruitment agency and is constantly recieving CVs in the .docx format, and is sending them to me to convert them.

Now, would there be any issues in installing 2010 alongside 2003, so he can use it to convert to the older version and then carry on working i n 2003?

Cheers for any help.
Jake

Could just tell him that the effort required to convert 2007/2010 documents to 2003 etc could just be used to learn 2010, which is really good once you get used to it :p.

Is he able to install Office 2003 SP3? It includes the converter. It might work if he installs the service pack.

I have to agree with Pho though. It seems counterproductive to be using 2003 just because he doesn't like 2007/2010.

He's in his mid 40's - very business orientated, getting him to switch would be a pane. I'm hoping running both will get him using 2010 more and then he'll pick it up and eventually switch over.

IIRC different versions of Outlook can't co-exist on the same machine, but Word, Excel etc should be OK.

Having said that, it's just a thought, but OpenOffice will open .docx files, and save them as .doc as well as .odt. I'm not sure if the original formatting would always emerge entirely unscathed, but I guess any tidying up could be done in Word 2003 if necessary. OO is free of course, so nothing to lose by giving it a shot. :)

The only issue when installing them together is that you can not make 2003 the default word association 2010 just automatically overwites it even if you manually change the file associations. you can still use open with and file open within 2003. But it is a bit of a pain.

Office 2010 overwrites 2003, but 2007 does not, so you should be able to run 2007 and 2003 simultaniously - regardless of which Word/Excel you have you can keep Outlook 2003 :)

Atleast this is what I had to do to get it working :)

Phate, look up an addin called "UBit" for Office 2007/2010.

It installs as an extra ribbon called "Menu" which effectivley recreates the look of 2003 menu's for noobs who resist change or can't find what they want in the new version.

We've rolled it out where I am as standard with new Office 2010 machines otherwise a world of pain would ensue...

Either that, or take a look Here for a good guide on how to have them installed at the same time. Quite useful and I've tried it and it does work. (Not sure about Outlook, I wouldn't risk it but that is the one with least change imo).

You can do this, once you've installed Word 2010 you just need to set a registry entry to stop the two versions fighting over who is the default for word documents. I've posted details on how to do this previously, you can find it here
