Hi folks

My mums old Mac has come to the end of its useful life. She is looking to replace it with a new one. We are going to transfer the contents of her old system through to the new system using Migration Assistant.

Will the old software from her G4 (Office, CS2 etc) run on a new Mac or will all the software have to be replaced too?

Thanks

*damn, just realised this should have been in the software section. Sorry mods!

All new Macs come installed with Lion which can no longer run old PPC-based apps like on the G4.

You will have to check what software, if any, have Universal binaries that can run on Intel machines.

It may be cheaper and as a short term solution to buy snow leopard and downgrade to that. It has Rosetta which support PPC apps, thou it's not 100% guarantee to work, I've only found the odd small applications fail.
