I've got a 13" MBA with the 256Gb SSD in. The problem is that between iTunes and Aperture I've pretty much filled my hard drive. my free space hovers around the 5Gb mark.

I've put all my music on iTunes match but obviously it still stays on my computer.
All my Movies and Films I have made on my camera are kept off my computer on my Popcorn Hour box.
I delete everything I can and clean out my iTunes libary as much as possible, but I still don't have enough space.
I would love to get a NAS and keep my Aperture library on there but from reading on Google is seems this is a bad idea.
I really don't like the idea of having to use an External Hard Drive every time I edit my photos but I can't think of an alternative. Are there any?

You can delete your itunes music and just stream it when you need it, that will free some space if its a viable option.

You dont really have any other options, you could use cloud storage, but then obviously thats not too different to using an external hard drive.

Wow, didn't realise that. I'll just delete some of the older stuff I don't listen to much and I can stream it when I need!

Also I think with Aperture I can keep my Libary in multiple places. I only got Aperture yesterday so haven't used it properly but maybe I can keep my recent photos on my laptop and my older photos on a hard drive I can plug in when I need.

I use a DNS-320 unit which is cheap as chips. I think it was about £50 when I bought it. The expensive part was getting the drives for it due to the flooding in Thailand. I think I went with 2x2TB seagate drives. So I've plenty of space yet. I honestly couldn't recommend it enough if all you want is a unit to store your iTunes library and pictures. It has tons of other functionality, though I haven't used any of it myself.

In terms of cheap NAS storage I'd agree. I have one of these and picked it up a couple months ago for about the same. They aren't the quietest boxes in the world though so it'd be best served if your router isn't in the same room as you are =]

Yeah. The highest fan setting is quite loud. But I have it sat in the hall beside the router and phone cradle so no noise problem. You can turn the fan off completely though. You can always set the box to email you if it goes above a certain temperature.

Ah I didnt realise that you could do that, all I have as options on mine are 2 auto settings or one manual one that stays on high. weird.

I just checked the web interface. The option I'm thinking off is auto: off / low / high. Shows how long it's been since I actually bothered going in and checking the thing :p

I'm not sure what the temp is that causes the fan to kick in, but I've never noticed the fans have spun up. I guess that's why I thought it was manual off.

I was hoping Manual would have been a bar that I could move, but Ive changed it to Auto/Low/High and told it that the temp tolerance should be as high as possible.

Anyway, I'll stop hogging this thread now, it's still an awesome box and crazy useful as an addition for your MBA Hamish ^_^

Get Grand Perspective and itll show where your space has went

Yep, been using that, pretty much all of it is Photos and Music.

Deleted a load of my music and freed up 30Gb. No loss as I can stream it from iTunes Match.

Would love to use a NAS but it's not advised to use one for Aperture or iTunes and has been causing people problems.
Think I'm going to get a 1Tb Passport Hard drive and try to move some of my older Photo Albums onto it in Aperture, then I stil have access to my newer albums without cables.

The stuff on my laptop is backed up onto a USB Drive using TimeMachine, the rest I plan to use Amazon S3 to backup to.

Any Recomendations on Apps to backup/sync a drive to S3?
