when i installed my OS, i didnt get an option to say if its 64bit or 32bit. Even if its 32bit shouldn't i still get at least 3.5gig of ram?

Hi marc

67 processes running. Are they all needed?

Looks like a lot auto starting, reserving memory that could be better used elsewhere.

I have no processes running under user appart from WLM - Xfire - Steam and the current game, the rest is all system and local service. Iv set MSCONFIG to run nothing on startup. So i guess yes its all needed things :(

That looks like Windows 7, doesnt it ship with 2 separate disks, and you get 32 or 64bit based on the disk you install from, there is no popup message during installation to ask if you want 32bit or 64bit.

I only got one disc, and nope i didnt get any pop-up message. Ill see if i can start the installation on another pc but not accual install it to see again if the message pops up. If not ill email windows about this. It does say OEM has both 32bit and 64bit right?

Alright i just checked again and i have the 32bit. BUT this is really confuseing me

On vista 32bit i saw 3.5gb Available when i had 4gb ddr2 ram. Now its only saying 2.99gb available.

Can somebody explain?

It seems that while the Retail version comes with both disks, the OEM copies are different, they come with 32bit OR 64bit depending on which copy you bought. However you may find that Microsoft will allow you to use your OEM Key to activate a 64bit disk within their EULA. Its probably best to contact microsoft on that, perhaps they will allow you to download the installation disk, or they may "sell" you a media pack with the 64bit disk at a reduced price.

64bit would resolve your problem, I have no doubt of that. I am convinced that there is no actual fault with your computer. Best of luck.

I phoned microsoft and they said check with the shop i bought it from. Went back to the shop and they said to me that they only sell the 32bit ( dont ask i dunno why )...if they told me this before i wouldnt of bought it. So im going to phone up microsoft and ask for something like the media pack with reduced 64bit like you said.
Any detail in whats in a media pack?

Most likely your motherboards PCI addressing is different. I assume you changed motherboards? System spex would be helpful.

Core i5
P55 MSI GD65 Motherboard
nVidia 9800GT
WD 640GB HD
4gb Dual Channel DDR3 G.Skill ripjaw ram
is that enough?

^^^

Maybe someone on here would be kind enough to send you a copy of their 7 x64 OEM disc, I only have retail.

Lol iv asked a few people but everyone has retail. Not on the forum like, i doubt that would happen :P would that work? install 64bit OEM disc with the activation code i bought?

What was your previous motherboard?

Newer boards require a larger block of reserved memory address space than older boards. My guess is that your newer board simply has a larger address space requirement than the old board.

pc was built from scatch, everything new

To ask the question a 3rd time!

You haven't removed the pagefile / virtual memory have you?

It looks like you've either disabled or limited your virtual memory size, and that's what's causing the popup to appear

i dont know what you mean sorry, sorry for long wait, i thought this thread was dead :P
How would i disable it?

update - pagefile has been removed. Just googled it did what it said, but i couldnt contiune because its already disabled :)

its saying now i have 3075mb of useage :( but its no problem now, i have my 64bit OS on disc here beside me, saving up for a SSD card now so i can install it, Hopefully this will fix it.

thats right after restart,
iv reset all my startup services and items to only basic needs (tablet stuff takes up quite a lot...) So idleing 1gb is normall for me

Ill go and play oblivion for a while, that usely gets the low memory error quite early on in the game. If i dont get it, its fixed :)

cheers fire wizard that has explained a lot! Im playing oblivion right now and i dont seem to be getting the low on memory anymore :) I probly will if i use more of the ram but it seemed to stop coming up at its usual time
thanks again!
