Running out of resources

I keep running out of resources on my PC. Quite often, I have several programs open and about 50 browser tabs on Firefox open at the same time.

Is this resource limit breakable or can I increase it somehow? I always seems to hit a wall when my Page File usage hits about 1.1 GB. Is it related to the processor?

Thanks,

Jon

you need more RAM, and lucky for you, it's ultra cheap at the moment :)

I assume you only have 1GB at the moment?
If so, another Gig will only set you back ~£15

Get some more memory mate. Really cheap atm, so would be a nice upgrade.

But surely having 50 tabs open in Firefox isn't good. Why don't you try closing a few and that will help aswell :)

Quite often though it shows some physical memory free. Screenshot below:

really, I'm running 67 on mine :-/, how many do you have running on yours then ?

Vista has double the idle running processes than XP, the guy above has XP and 60 processes in XP is dreadful and a sign that someone somewhere is doing it wrong.

Another good note for Vista then if it can run so smooth with double the default processes :p

Jon12345 - Any chance of a screenshot of the applications tab from that screenshot? We could help you out with what is running that doesn't need to be. It could be that all you need is to stop some processes running on start-up and to tailor the services on your PC and that will help you.

If you have 1Gb of RAM on XP then I would strongly recommend upgrading to 2Gb as that is XP's sweet spot. As has been mentioned it is quite cheap at the moment. :)

I currently have 33 processes running including firefox, thunderbird, sony Disk2phone, Samurize, speedfan and daemon tools. on boot im running 28/29 on WinXP Pro with SP2.

I Only have 1Gb of ram and my PF usage sits around 260mb untill i do somthing very memory intensive and run a game.

Post an image of your Processes tab and Applications tab so we can see what you have going on in there.

it is bad....for xp

What he said. I always aim to have no more than 30 running on mine usually around 27 when gaming & i have 2 Gig of ram.
Post a screenshot of your processes.

Here is a screenshot of my processes.

That's odd, the link to my file is not showing. Is there a graphic size limit on here?

Blimey Jon! How much of that starts up when you log in to XP? You should set your PC up so that it only runs the essential services and processes when you log on. Would mean a quicker boot up.

Then as you run programs etc, the other processes and services are run.
how come there's a pointer in the screenshot? :s
I wanna know that too!

He's using Snagit (as you can see from the process LOL!) and Snagit captures mouse cursor as well!
