Hi,

I don't want to turn this into a medic thread, but just after some advice...

I am training for the Sheffield 1/2 marathon and keep getting pains down the sides of my feet (Moreso on the inside). Eventually it spreads to parts of my lowet leg and eventually becomes pins and needles. It starts in the left foot but affects both. First symptoms appear around 4 miles in, and it gets really bad by about 6. I don't think my shoes are too tight but might this be the problem? My running shoes are at the point where they need replacing bur surely they would not cause this much pain?? One more thing my friend commented that my feet point out slightly when I run. Could this be related/ will a new shoe help? I only started training for it a few weeks ago and never noticed this before so perhaps my feet are not used to the distances?

Thanks

Get yourself along to a running shop that does GAIT analysis they will look at the way you run by filming you and things then recommend a trainer that will suit your running style, I'd also get along to the doctors as well just incase its something more serious

With all that you'd be better off seeking advise from a sports physio - just get a one off assesment to rule out biomechanical issues. Take your old shoes with you and get them to look at them. A decent sports physio will know what they'll be looking at if to give them your shoes.

Tight lacing can put pressure on the top of the foot and can lead to numbness. Google for lacing guides and try lacing differently - can make a lot of difference. But I'd get an assesment if only to be told you need new shoes and peace of mind.

You only started a few weeks ago. Isn't Sheffield half in a couple of weeks?? Good luck!
