Hi,

Would there be any benefit in me installing say BIND and having my Windows 7 laptop become it's own self serving DNS server or am I just better off looking at hosted DNS solutions whether they be my ISP or Google|OpenDNS|others?

I'm thinking that if I had DNS queries resolved on my machine then it would be fast and reliable.

Thanks very much,
Andy

I would think your more likely to run into problems with your own DNS. I would suggest sticking to OpenDNS.

From a practical point of view - speed, reliability, convenience - I see little point. Unless your ISP is horrendously bad... but even then you could use Google.

However, that's not to say you shouldn't. Why don't you just do it anyway for the sheer tinkering aspect? That's how you learn stuff.

Personally, I just set my router's DNS to the Google ones. Mostly because they're easy to remember!
