*nods*, lads

I'm after a pair of decent running shoes while I train as I'm thinking of a career in the military. I've been training for a few weeks now in a pair of lacoste straps fashion slipper trainer things and at 4km <20 mins a day let me tell you my ankles cane. I need good comfort and support so I can run lots and not get shin splints. I'm willing to sacrifice looks for a pair of pure running shoes which won't be worn except when running :P I know asics, mizuno etc. are good makes. I'd rather not spend over £60 but if there's absolutely nothing decent for preferably £50 I will spend more.

I've found these, quite like the look of them:

Are they any good and could anyone recommend any pairs.

Cheers,.

as with all similar threads on here.

Advice

Go to a running shoe shop get advice on running action and appropriate shoes for you. and correct size as all slightly different.
Buy a pair and run in them, I use New Balance, excellent, light very comfortable, the pair i have are not great for off road so apply to the terrain you run on.
Then and only when you have run in them would i consider buying the same pair from the internet.

Try mandmsports.com, they've got a sale on some running shoes. Saucony are supposed to be good. Other brand names are Asics, Mizuno, New Balance.

Excellent advice - if you run in crappy trainers you will do no end of damage to your knees, ankles etc.

I'll say it again:

Charge for delivery, Royal Mail Special delivery next day, but still always a few quid cheaper than anywhere else.

Thanks for the advice so far lads, my mate said there's no point in going to the "specialist" shop by me with all hiking gear and that, they'll sell you anything so I'm just after an all around decent pair of running shoes. Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

You need a proper running shop, which will check your feet and the way you run.

I bought some running shoes online a while ago, Nike Air cross wind, got a great deal etc.

Unfortunately, after about 2k i would get chronic backache, so off i went to a decent running shop, they checked me out, by putting me on a running machine, it turned out my instep was collapsing inwards, which meant i needed a stability shoe, i tried a NB,Saucony and Mizhuno.

The mizhuno's felt right, so off i went, im now running 7-8 miles without a hitch.

You gotta ask yourself, is it worth damaging your back or knees by using cheap shoes?

My gym does a free foot scan and running style assessment. I'm planning on going in to see what type of shoe to get that best suits my style.

They do sell shoes there but they don't force you to buy the trainers there and then. So I'm going to go in and find the right shoe that fits OK and probably order online if I'm saving about £10+ by doing so. If not I'll just get them from the gym as it'll keep the money within the gym and it's shop.

Like you, I'd like a cheap pair of trainers but I don't want to spend ~£20 on something to find it gives me chronic pain in my joints or back (like wohoo) and then having to spend another £50 on another pair, totalling £70.

nicely done, an improvement on what you were talking about before INDEED.

I've had similar problems with shoes. I think I'll just get the Asic Gel Keyanos from JoeJogger soon - last time I went to a running shop I got shoes that were of no help.

Thanks, im quite pleased with my progress so far,but my pace needs work, i have been looking at a few guides online to see how i can up the pace.Im gonna do the GNR later this year so i need to get my act in order :p

One thing i have been surprised by tho, i find it near impossible to run in a gym now, its much easier on the road!

What have you got in mind for increasing your pace?

Well im not sure what to do in all honesty, i have been reading this but as i have never done this kind of distance before im not sure what to do.

I have an idealistic target of doing the half marathon in 1.45, currently it takes me 55 mins to do 10k, so i have a long bloody way to go :p

I'd love a sub 60 minute 10-miler...

At the moment I need a 9 minute 1.5 miler first

Both of these at 6 minute mile pace

I run a sub 60 min 10 k'er, not miler, I wish I could be that good :p

After another crippling night down the gym I need a pair asap so I've just gone ahead and ordered these:

http://www.joejogger.co.uk/Details.cfm?ProdID=55&category=1

It's the 2007 version so brand new, RRP is 85 and they are selling for that at JJB, John Lewis so £58 is a bargain.

From what I've read they seem the same as the Gel Kayano's which are more expensive, same shape for good support and comfort so I'm quite looking forward to testing them out :)

The P&P at 6.50 fixed is a bit lose but I'll give a little review once they arrive incase anyone is interested.

Ty.
