Running VPN server at home with Sky BB

Hi all,

I have the Sky Sagem router hooked up to my Apple AEBS. I have an iMac connected to the AEBS via ethernet, which runs a VPN server.

Connecting another laptop to the AEBS I can connect to the VPN perfectly well using the internal IP address of the iMac. I'm assuming this means that the AEBS port mapping I setup is OK and VPN server is also.

My problem comes when I try to access the VPN using my public IP address from another network. I have the Sagem set to forward traffic on the VPN ports to the AEBS (I have also added the AEBS's IP as a DMZ host but doesn't work either) but nothing seems to work.

The Sagem gives my AEBS and IP of 192.168.0.2, which I'm using as the IP for the forwarding - sound OK?

Any ideas?!?!
Cheers!
Adam

Are the AEBS and iMac assigned different LAN IP addresses by your DHCP server (i.e. router)?

If so, surely you should be forwarding the VPN ports to the iMac, not the AEBS?

The Sky router assigns the AEBS 192.180.0.2, the AEBS assigns the iMac 10.0.1.50 (allocated by MAC address so remains the same)

I made some progress. I got the iPhone VPN client to connect to the VPN server on the iMac using another internet connection (3G) so it does work. I've not been able to get a Windows VPN client to connect however, so perhaps the client is at fault and not the server.

Cheers,

It could be the Windows Client incorrectly setup or incompatible, or maybe the network you are going over is stopping it working.

Can you tether your Windows machine to your iphone and connect over 3G from the PC.
You've already proven that the 3G works, so this will show if the PC is at fault or the network you connected over.
