Running water noise in radiator

Looking for some help and advice.
I suffer from running water noise in my radiator and I can't seem to cure it. It happens when the heating comes on and can be loud enough to wake me, it's like a shower in my room!

I can bleed the thing when it makes the noise, bleed each radiator individually, bleed the one that usually collects the air. And repeat the procedure when it's not making a noise. Both times all I get is clean water out and makes no difference.

There doesn't seem to be any hot or cold patches on my radiator and according to my dad there is no fill tap for the system.

Anybody aware of anything else to try?

Not enough water in the system. I'm guessing you're running a vented system, because with a combi the lack of water would be reflected with low pressure (less than 1 bar) on the boiler's panel. My boiler won't even run if there's low pressure.

If I'm right and you have a feed and expansion tank in the loft, then you need to check the float valve is doing its job correctly and filling the system. If the valve is operating correctly then there must be air stuck in the system somewhere else. Sometimes there are bleed valves at points in the loft; might be worth having a look upstairs.

This is where you tell me you've got a combi... :p

The boiler is a Potterton Suprima 60L

And now I am having a brainfart morning, I thought when we changed things around maybe back early 2007 we went for a combi, but the hot water storage tank would suggest otherwise?

Connection back.:(

You need to connect a filling loop from mains supply to boiler to refill it.
Might be already one connected, you have to open valve(s), is there gauge on front of boiler, should be around 1 bar, in the green section on most boiler.
haven't got a installation/user manual to check.

Sounds like your system is an open vented type, ( no filling loops etc..).

The 60L isn't condensing (not to be confused with combination), but I don't think its related to your fault.

Make sure you vent air out of all your radiators when the system is turned off, some old types can suck air in from the negative side. And make sure that you get water dripping out of each vent. If you don't get water out of each rad you've got a blocked cold feed or a stuck float valve.

After that, by the sounds of things, your system probably needs a good clean out. It could be that pipes (air separator etc) are clogged up and are not allowing the system to vent properly along with the possibility that the boiler is 'bubbling' the water (kettling) creating air being trapped in the system and circulating round through your radiators without being vented properly.

Might be best to get a plumber in to sort it out for you.

Thanks Mick.

I'll need to try and do it when it's off then. Only thing is being away at work it's on when I'm in the house really- I live with parents so they dictate it.

It's actually a fault that's been there for a couple of years now. :(
