Got a couple of PWM alpenfohn fans that i wish to use as top exhaust fans in my case. The problem is, the fans have a 4 pin cpu style connector. All of the molex - fan adapters i have are for 3 pin fans only. I cant connect them direct to the motherboard as every fan header is in use. Cant find a suitable adapter on the ocuk shop site either.

You can usually remove some of the material from a 3 pin connector (pin side) on an extension so a 4 pin will fit.

So you don't want to use the PWM goodness of the fans? Just power them?

Yep, just to power them Tealc, have two PWM akasa piranhas on the cooler running of the mobos two cpu fan headers. Might have an old akasa PWM splitter that can take 4 pin fans, then connect direct to the psu. One of theese.

Wont be connecting it to the cpu header as it wont allow the reading of the cooler fan speeds, and the cpu fans are rated at different speed than the alpenfohns. If i havent got that cable, ill go with the cutting job.

Seems a shame not to use the PWM control on them though Setter. It shouldn't make any difference if the fans are different speeds as they should all react normally to a PWM signal.

Those PWM splitter cables are ugly as sin though. Never used mine. Preferred to make my own rather than try and cable manage the Akasa one.

It's strange I never had any trouble reading rpm no matter which combination of my PWM fans I used. Sometimes I got a spurious 50000 rpm speed as the controller circuit picked up the PWM but it usually resolved itself eventually.

Time for a new fan controller perhaps?

Yep, my zalman zmfc1 is goosed, was looking at a lamptron fc2/5 or the bitfenix recon. When the zalman worked i only used it for the case fans. Always kept cpu fans on PWM. If i can find the 5 fan splitter cable, ill try it with all four PWM fans.
