Hi,

I've been looking on various alcohol shopping sites for Russian Vodka with home market Russian language labels (i.e. in cyrillic). This would presumably be vodka made for the home Russian market, not export.

I can't seem to find any of this in the UK. Does anyone here happen to know where one could purchase vodka of this type?

Thanks.

Russian Standard has such text:

Or what about these:

Or, just buy this and have vodka for a week: http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-10068.aspx

You'll be hard pressed to find a non export vodka for sale over here. We have heaps of rules on what a bottle must have on it for it to be legally saleable and I can't imagine many of the Russian home stuff passing such tests. Your best bet, if the above isn't suitable, would be to find your local Polish/Russian food shop and see what they have. Every time I've been into one, they've been really friendly and keen to help.

My mate works with a lot of Russians and he says they all swear by Russian Standard over other brands. Including the more fancy expensive types.

I've actually been told by a fair few Russians & Ukranians that Russian Standard Platinum is the best one to get. The trouble with the expensive ones is that they are very, very, smooth for vodka and it really takes something out of the drink. Plus, chilling it as cold as possible takes any taste out further. Far too many 'fashion' vodkas out there.

That being said, Ketel One is my favourite vodka that I've tried but I suppose Russian wise, I'd pick Russian Standard Platinum.

I don't drink vodka very often but, when I do, it's Russian Standard. Never tried the platinum though. I'll get a bottle of that next time I buy vodka.

Russian Standard is what they mainly drink in Moscow. The biggest imported vodka to both Russia and Poland is Finlandia.

Either are a cut above what else is available within that price bracket, though Finlandia edges it for me due to the zero hangover you get if you stick to it.

When I use to drink (T total now) I thought that finlandia vodka was by far the smoothest tasting, especially when drank neat. Due to the lack of a harsh after taste (imo obviously), it tasted vastly better when using it as a mixer. I also agree about the hangover aspect as well, especially compared to smirnoff.

I have drunk loads of both to be fair. When they dropped the price of RS to a tenner in my local store last year, I bought a box of 12. :o

I meant in one go. If you drink enough of anything, you will get a hangover. The only sure way to avoid a hangover is not to drink! And sod that. I'm just messing.
