Everyone, been away for quite a while, girlfriend, house, cars etc taken up too much time (but no regrets) and my old P4 rig became oh so reliable so I guess I was just happy with my lot for a while...no bad thing.
So, Hi again!
OK, so I've decided to play around with some aquired memory sticks and having problems to say the least! I'm basically upgrading the rig as much as poss without going new build...this includes AGP upgrade (x1950) and memory.
Now I was running OCZ Gold PC4000 (2x512 modules matched), P4 2.8 clocked to 3.2 on a Abit MAX3 mobo, mem set to run at 'SPD' which I guess is timings controlled by CPU/mobo.
Managed to aquire OCZ 3200 platinum (4x512) EL CAS 2-2-2-5 which i was told would run perfect in my rig, increasing memory size (obviously) for Vista Ultimate and would run at much more aggressive timings.
Problem is, I can't get it to run in the OS but it will post boot but only by putting the CPU back to 2.8. I'm guessing it's to do with the multiplier and timing settings but not too sure what the ideal settings should be for my mobo. Managed to get partially into the OS before the PC just reboots itself by increasing the CAS timings to the highest values so I'm wondering if it's down to the multiplier (1:1, 3:2 or 4:5) or the fact that the OS wants the old sticks back and I need to repair Vista? The old sticks were running at FSB 225 (250 capable) at 1:1.
OK, it's part memory and part OC help I'm looking for so apologies if I'm in the wrong forum.
Any help would be appreciated.
