Bit of an odd one, but I accidentally dropped a hex drill bit into the toilet and in what must have been less than 24 hours it's rusted the enamel at the bottom of the toilet (or so it seems). Tried bleach and scrubbing and no luck.

Any old housewives tips or remedies?

Crucially, remove the water from the bottom first, then attack it with something acidic overnight. Either white vinegar or lemon juice should do.

Are you sure it's stained the surface, rather than a layer of scale or similar? I find our toilets often catch me out, and what I think is limescale is dirt, and vice versa.

Basically, I do an overnight with limescale remover (acid) and an overnight with bleach (alkaline) then scrub if they're not sparkling.

We recently had builders drop a nail and some debris into one loo and this sorted it right out :)

Kilrock Big K Multi-Purpose Descaler 400ml (also can get a paint on Gel if stubborn stain).

A friend rented a flat and the toiler had a thick like protein layer (tan coloured) on bottom on U bend (Scotland so not limescale), I ignored the instructions and emptied the water out pan and poured really hot water in a bucket and mixed with the whole bottle of above and left it overnight, the next day the toilet brush broke all the crud up and pan was new looking (white enamel).
