RV02/FT02 Graphics Card Question

Hello

Looking to build a new computer within the next month and I was recommended a Silverstone RV02 although after looking around I think I prefer the FT02 but its basically the same layout inside. Anyway after doing some looking around at some peoples builds I stumbled across a few threads where people were saying graphics cards with heat pipes were causing some problems for them such as overheating or just getting much higher temperatures being at that angle.

Thread 1 In this thread someone says about there GTX 480 having strange temperatures especially across the heat pipes.

Thread 2 In this thread I believe its a 5970 having overheating problems.

There were a few other threads but I cant find them at the moment but was basically people with similar issues. My question is, as I would be using SLI 480s has anyone got or has had a single/sli/crossfire cards which has heat pipes in these cases and have you had any problems?

Thanks for the replys guys, would be nice to hear from sid488 and see what he thinks about this and what temps he's getting.

Im hoping its all ok as I really like the case but if there's some dount Ill probably just end up going with the HAF X.

It's cooling my GTX580 about 5c less than my Antec 902 which had decent cooling.I am adding a 2nd sometime soon so will see how that goes but if you are worried so much you could go SLI GTX570 instead.

Already have one 480 so dont really want to buy two 570's.

Most graphics cards with heatpipes will work just fine in FT02/RV02 including all reference designs by NVIDIA and AMD. We always use their top cards as part of our product development so we do have cards such as GTX 480/580/590 and Radeon HD 5970/6970/6990 to test with while both NVIDIA and AMD also have our cases in their labs.

Regarding the GTX 480, it is indeed a very hot card. The reference design heatpipes can get hot to touch, but that is normal and shows they are working. As a second opinion, you can check out the experience here by Kyle over at HardOCP:

The link showing the person having problem with the 5970 was using a non-reference design card from Sapphire that used a cooler with heatpipes oriented perpendicular to the floor and the end touching the heat source higher than the other end. So this is the the reason why it performed poorly. We have a Q&A page that also explains this issue:

As an easy rule, simply look for graphics cards that have heatpipes oriented parallel to the floor and you should be fine.
