RV740 preview + benchmarks

It'll likely match or beat the 4850 when it comes out - why? Guru3D tested it at 650MHz, it's coming out at 750MHz. Also this article is quite old.

Another thing mentioned is thier test version was a 650Mhz core clocked cards, release models are meant to be 750, so the gaps will close even further.

Will be good if its released with a Zalman style cooler as well!

-edit beaten to it while looking at the review

Why strangle it with a 128bit bus though? :(

Cheaper to produce, but backed up with GDDR5 it ends up very similar to a 256bit GDDR3 system, so its cheaper, and in most cases just as fast; so we get a cheaper card. If these come out at about £80, with 4850 performance bar 1-2% then it's win win for the consumer.
If it was on a 256bit bus, it'd be more expensive, and the card would be closer to a 4870 than a 4850, which is not the idea.

Alexrose1uk has given most of the reasons, another one is probably to reduce the power that the card needs. If they can get under 75w then the card can be powered from the mobo itself and won't need additional power from the PSU.
