RV770 Pro first, XT later.

Frustrating. I just want the new cards to be released.

I do not want to get the pro, I want to get a nice powerful card. I am half tempted to replace the 320 MB gts I have with a 8800 GT, but the step up in performance I would get that would only last me 3 months is not worth it.

Maybe I will just save up for a new HDTV or maybe buy a replacement Xbox 360 while waiting :/

Just please when they come out, don't everyone call them "4850 Pros" and "4870 XTs", they don't use pro and XT for their cards anymore! :p ;)

Do all the jars and tins in your cupboards have to be facing forward also? :p :D.

Why on earth is everyone saying "I hope it's faster than the 8800GTX..."?
The fact of the matter is, the GTX is OLD and every new high-end card should be eating it for breakfast. But they aren't, and the only effort from Nvidia that beats it is some half-baked 9800GX2 (oh but wait, it's still an 8800) oh and it only beats it in SLi games.

somebody's always going to state the obvious. i know lets have a dig at nvidia even though this thread has nothing to do with them. genius!

Nobody has said "hope" in this thread except from you .

I said "should be". I own the 2900Pro which is an underclocked 2900XT. This overclocks to faster than the XT but still loses out to my 8800GTX. There has been improvements made in the 4 series from ATI that should see it beat the GTX but as nothing is concrete yet with no reviews to be seen I have to use the word "should" even though I feel it will be a little bit faster than the G80 GTX.

Yes it's an old card (G80 GTX) but it's still one of the fastest cards out there and when a new card comes on to the scene it's immediately compared to the faster cards of before ;).

RV770 in all of its iterations should be faster than G80... IMO at least.

They are going to be relatively cheap though. XT will be kind of late because of GDDR5 maybe? Supply issues?

It should certainly be faster, I mean, RV770 XT is in most theoretical specifications twice as fast as R670, but there's no crossfire/SLi crap to hold it back from realising its potential, it's all one chip. I believe we're going to be in for a nice treat when RV770 comes around.

With GDDR3 first? I thought the RV770XT card was supposed to come equipped with GDDR5 as standard, and there to be GDDR3 and GDDR5 RV770Pro cards.

Dunno, im confused now, i thought the XT was gona be GDDR3, and the X2 was going to be GDDR5. :p

I thought it was supposed to be like this:

RV770 Pro GDDR3 (512MB) - 4850
RV770 Pro GDDR5 (512MB) - 4850
RV770 XT GDDR5 (1GB) - 4870

Not heard much about the X2 card other than it's supposed to be somehow 'better' than the 3870 X2 in design terms...

Too confusing now, think ill just ignor inquirer and pretend ATI are doing a grand launch in May with 5-6 different Graphic cards including the X2 version:)

Let's just hope it's not like the 2900 XT launch where we thought we were gonna get a 2900 XTX to battle it out with the 8800 GTX...

Bingo, thats what i believe as well.

R700 (X2) should come a bit later, and be an XT x2 with maybe lower memory frequencies. I can't see them using GDDR3 for any of the high end versions as they come with the 256 Bit memory interfaces.
