RX 480 on 100% load all the time?

Hi - quick question regarding my RX480 4Gb card. For some reason, the load always seems to be at 100%, even with no games or windows open. I have used both GPU Temp and GPU-Z and they both report 100% load and a temperature of ~80 degrees. Using driver 16.7.3 (there is a newer driver, but it's beta)

Any ideas why the card is showing 100% when my pc is just idle doing nothing? Many thanks :)

Okies - so no malware found (also ran Avast scan with no issues) and have updated the driver uninstalling the old one using DDU.

Restarted the pc and all seemed to be ok. Played a bit of Minecraft then some GTA IV then went out for a bit. Took the pc out of sleep mode and GPU Z is showing the load at 100% and temp at ~80 again. I've downloaded Process Explorer, but that seems to show different info to GPU Z - it's showing negligible load on the GPU (if I'm reading it correctly)

Screenie:

Any ideas? ty for the suggestions do far :)

Ok - found the Wattman stuff in the AMD folder - it is showing load as 100%

Restarted hwinfo as suggested and that is also showing

GPU Clock 1266
GPU Memory Clock 300
GPU Utilization 100%
GPU Thermal diode ~78-80
FWIW fan is at ~1050-1100

edit - just seen is current min max avg I'm sorry, I'm really not up to speed on this stuff

All seems normal there. Does it do it straight away after you restart? If so, have you tried booting in safe mode to see if it still happens?

ok - I've just rebooted and now temp and load are back to normal settings. I don't use this pc for much, just email, internet, im and some basic games (think MC and GTA IV like I said). I'm wondering if entering and exiting sleep mode may be causing some kind of issue, but until this point in time right here of me troubleshooting I've not really looked too deeply into it, if that makes sense?

Big thanks for the help though benjii - ty I'll prolly update this thread after I note what causes the load issue :)

Try uninstalling PlaysTV/Raptr and see if it happens again.

Okies - I uninstalled that last night and have done lots of testing/playing/sleeping and so far since 8am to right now, the issue has not come back, so I can only assume that the PlaysTV/Raptr program was causing the issue. A big thank you to all for all the help in resolving this for me - hugs :)

Same problem here I got my red devil one this morning and its flickering a bit but its at 100% load at desktop as well as yours.

Sorry to hear this - all I can suggest is trying the above, if you have it installed, as it *seemed* to be causing my issue. gl with getting it sorted - it might be worth starting your won thread, but I don't mind if you want to keep posting on this thread to keep ideas/monitoring programs in one place.

I restarted my pc since I was installing stuff and it evened out. The usage went up and down when I was on youtube. I think I've seen it in another thread that restarting is a temp fix.

I restarted last night after uninstalling playstv/raptr and haven't restarted at all today - now 13 hours and no occurrence of the issue.

GL sorting your system :)

I haven't got Raptr installed, I'm not running GPU-Z for the time being and I very, very rarely use Steam, but it will still randomly start pulling 100% load for no reason.

What's wrong with sleep mode? It means my pc saves power when I'm not using it. Sometimes I'll get up to do other stuff and end up spending more time away from my pc than I thought. I wouldn't have shut it down as I don't always realise I'll get caught up in the other stuff :)

I still don't get your hate for sleep mode. You never just got up from the pc for a couple of minutes only to get waylaid by other stuff? I certainly do not turn off my pc every time I get up from my desk :confused:

Anyway - you can rule out sleep mode - it's just ramped to to 100% load 4 minutes ago. No screen saver, no sleep mode.

Does anyone know how to consistently reproduce this issue?

I'm sorry, but I've not been able to consistently reproduce it - it just seems random. One thing - sometimes the AMD Radeon Settings crashes and restarting it will also cause a 100% load on reloading of the programme
Please let me know if it happens without Steam running. We are aware of an issue with SteamVR causing 100% GPU load, we hope to have a fix for that one soon.

It certainly happens without steam running - I hardly ever run steam, and haven't for at least a couple of weeks, and it's still happening.

Thank you for looking into it :)

If this issue happens again, bring up Task Manager and look for a process called icchs.exe and end it. It's a windows update scheduler, let me know if that drops GPU usage back to 0%.

ok - just brought the pc out of sleep mode and I've got 100% usage again. Looked in task manager but I don't have icchs.exe running. For me it mostly seems to happen when coming out of sleep mode. I didn't have Steam, GPU-Z running nor do I have raptr installed :)

Ok so turned the pc on about 25 minutes ago this morning. Just checked wattman after 25 mins and we're at 100% load. Hasn't entered sleep mode or any screen savers. I've just been looking at Facebook. Steam and GPU-Z not loaded, nor have I loaded them this morning and I don't have raptr installed, and there's no icchs.exe

I've taken screenshots of taskmanger if you need them.
