Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I'm building a new gaming rig, and have settled on the RX 480 as my GPU of choice.

I was wondering what people's opinions are on which of the different non-reference designes would be the best pick?

I know in the UK we don't have all of them on the market yet, (anyone any idea when they'll start to be released) but I don't know weather to wait for the likes of MSI and gigabyte's offerings, or to go ahead and buy the sapphire nitro.

Thoughts?

Thanks allot.

From what I've read, the PowerColor Red Devil seems like the best all-round choice. Quieter than the Nitro whilst cooling just as well, although it's about 6cm longer. The MSI and Asus cards are supposed to be great as well, but they're far too expensive.

I'd recommend the Powercolor Devil too. Previously I have had an MSI Gaming and XFX DD 290X and now a Powercolor 390 PCS and by far the best cooler from them 3 is the Powercolor. The cooler can keep my OC 390 at around 73C no problem.

The Red Devil cooler looks like the PCS+ cooler so should perform very well.

I've also read the PowerColor Devil is the best out of the 480s that have been heavily reviewed. If looks are important to you, I personally find it the cheapest looking and then there's the logo on the side of the card which is upside down so if you are wanting to display it with pride, be warned.

Two new cards which caught by eye are the XFX GTR Black and the HIS IceQ X2 but I have struggled to find reviews of both and so cannot comment on how good they actually are.

There are reports that the Sapphire Nitro variants run hot / are louder than the other custom cooler options.

Based on ASUS's warranty reputation and the MSI's price, I also wouldn't choose either of them.

Gigabyte have released very little information about their card and there have been reports of coil whine coming from their nVidia cards.

Thanks for all the replies, seems like power colour is the favourite, then.

How is the build quality? as good as MSI, ASUS, gigabyte etc?

I think the Devil's cooler casing is metal as well as the backplate so better than the others you mentioned since they are all usually plastic. The PCS+ card I have is also metal and feels very solid and better than my old 7950 Vapor-X.

Sounds great.surprised that I've never heard of the company until a month or so ago.

Why such a high price with the likes of MSI, ASUS etc?

Because people will pay it, basically. They're amongst the biggest-selling graphics cards brands, because they're huge companies with huge marketing departments and have convinced people that it's worth paying more to have their name on the box.

I dare say that PCS+ is the BEST quality build out of any bar the extreme versions (Kingpin, Lightning etc.) for cards in general. It would always be my first choice, and considering the price for the 480 - it's a no brainer.

Makes sense

When you say PCS+, is that a type of power colour GPU?
