As above.

Documentation does not really tell you anything about the bios switch on these cards or which way is the correct way. Now when i got mine i just plugged it in and after abit of fiddlin i got it working nicely.

So my question's
1.how do you know which way is the default way for the bios switch?
2.how do you know what the other bios does?

if i look in my case now card is mounted horizontal the bios switch is flicked towards the right that would be closest to the front of the pc case, is that even the correct way :)

You got documentation with your card! I had to watch video reviewers to try and work out what Sapphire did with the Nitro+.
Seriously, I think that if the card is mounted in a regular fashion, horizontally or vertically, the BIOS position towards the front of the case would be the performance option.

Another way would be to look at the cards clock rate in GPU-z when switching between BIOS versions. I think that most of the 5700XT cards have a primary BIOS that’s clocked higher than the reference card, with a secondary one that’s clocked at about the same rate, along with a gentler fan curve.

For the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT the right switch is performance, the middle one “silent” and the left one the TRIXX enabled one that lets you switch using the software instead of opening up the case to physically change it.

if you’ve read my problems with my Sapphire in the 5700 owners thread you’ll realise that I’m no expert on these matters, just though I’d get the ball rolling as many others have chipped in to try and help me.

Depends the card. :P The reference models don't have dual bios.

I think what Panos means is that RX 5700 XT is the series name, not the actual model of the card, just like RTX 2070 is a serie name for Nvidia cards.

Your specific card could be what’s known as a reference model, produced directly by AMD, or from one of the many companies that produce their own version of the card, which are known as AIB cards.

Ah i see, my apologies Panos It is a sapphire radeon which am led to believe has dual bios.

PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING AT YOUR OWN RISK
If it's a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT then there are 3 switch positions.
1. Switch towards the fans - Performance mode.
2. Switch towards the middle - Silent mode
3. Switch towards the display & HDMI ports - Trixx software mode.
I did get a separate piece of paper with my Sapphire Nitro+ with a diagram.
