I want to get into watercooling and thinking of picking up one of the Xspc d5 photon kits, but am unsure between choosing an rx or ax radiator? How much performance does the rx give?

I plan on putting this in a phanteks enthoo luxe, and adding a 780 to the loop down the line.

The AX performs similar to the RX, but keep in mind the AX is quite thinner. If space is an issue, get the AX. If it's not, get whichever you can get cheaper

The AX has a higher FPI than the RX, 16fpi vs 13fpi (for v3). The v2 RX was sub 8fpi and was good for low RPM fans if you wanted a quieter (i.e. silent) PC. As the v3 is now up to 13fpi and is newer than the AX, I can only assume that it is a better performer. There wouldn't be much point in producing a new version if it was as noisy and performed worse than their AX series.;)

I have an AX120 and a v2 RX240 in my system. I run my fans as quietly as possible and both rads perform great. I was able to cool an old Phenom x4 9850 BE and a Radeon HD7870 on only the RX240 with the coolant only a few degrees above ambient and the fans silent ~600rpm.

Now I'm on an FX9590 and about to put an R9 290 into the loop, I'll be adding a slim NexXxos ST30 240 and an old HWLabs BlackIce SR-1 280 that I have laying about (replacing the AX120) into the loop alongside my RX. :)

With RX you need lower rpm fans to push the air through, but it takes a larger space.

So if you have loads of room to put a RX in, then I would say put an RX in, coz you can just put your fans in a lower rpm comparing with AX.

But AX does look better than RX IMHO :D
