Rx480 prices.... mining?

Interesting, so do you mine as part of an eth pool or solo? I don't know much about this all but curious really.

Wondering if I could buy a 1070 and pay it off. But prices seem to fluctuate like crazy, in theory you can pay it off in few months... but a lot happens in a month when it comes to cryptos :D

Yeah you're right the prices are fluctuating all the time so I'm mining in a pool so I can get paid quicker and exchange to £.

Also for those who say that Nvidia cards are inefficient at ethereum mining here is my rig doing 140MH/s and pulling only 480W from the wall.

Nice, yeah I know enough to say that paying the price of a 1070 on a used 480 on ebay is stupid...

Btw what pool do you mine in?

Not sure if it is related to the mining resurgence but the recommended BIN prices for 7970s on eBay are about 60-70 (which I assume are based on the past year or so) but the current prices range from 100-150 and mine sold in an hour at £115 :)

If you game at all get the 1070 but a lot of mining is done by headless machines. is 480w a little amount, swear I used to use less but I only checked roughly

Personally I do have some concern about the 180 day return period on the famous auction site though - it used to be 45 days??

I've never sold on eBay so know little about it. Are you saying you can sell someone something and they can pursue a return within 180 days? Surely that kinda thing is for shops?

Yep. It used to 45 days for Paypal and 30 days for the famous auction site - the issue is that the 180 day thingy applies to all Paypal purchases, but you to offer Paypal on all sales it seems, and they seem to think to be treating anybody who sells anything as some kind of shop. Its ridiculous as in a physical auction you don't really get a guarantee on anything and I could understand the earlier period of a few weeks to judge condition of the item, but apparently missed out on the extension to 180 days.

I can appreciate it might not be an issue for lots of sales, but this is a slightly niche area.

Now the issue is these cards will be hammered 24/7 and as mentioned before the market could crash too,so I really don't know what to do. I have a virtually unused RX470 lying here which does have a warranty but even then its taking the mickey. You can't even give negative feedback to buyers either.

So even if you state no returns and not offered any warranty in description they can still complain and get money back for 180 days??

That is damn good, with five R9 290 I get approx 150MH/s but at closer to 1400W at the wall, in the process if rebuilding my rigs at the moment as had some fan failures :D

How long did they last and what % did you run them at.?

The GPU and PSU fans are all OK, it was the additional case fans that all failed, there were at 100% for a couple of years, mixture of 120mm and 140mm units :D

You can see the results in this thread, to be honest its the first service the rigs have had for a long time so some failures were not unexpected as I noticed the temps were higher than normal.

My R9 390's have been at 100% load and the hotter card is sometimes nudging 90 degrees (though usually 80's) - They have been doing a mix of folding and mining for a year or so. One of them has a failing fan bearing, it makes an annoying noise.

How long would an RX480 take to pay for itself mining?
Last week about 50 days, this week about 80 days.
Not an exact science because of how much the currency fluctuates, GPU prices have risen, power draw and hashrates can be fine tuned a considerable amount. I got my single 480 doing 26MH/s at just under 90W (132W with gaming overclocks) without undervolting or adjusting memory timings, just fiddling with clock speeds in afterburner.

I have a brand new Asus 8gb 480 in a pc and I'm debating selling it ASAP or seeing if it can earn me something in meantime.

Ill give it one and maximum 2 more months before people drop GPU mining again due to difficulty and hopefully the average joe can buy a proper gpu for gaming once again. This mining craze is getting silly.

Out of the 290's I sold I made enough to buy myself a new 1070 :)

Will put the 290 Tri X on tonight and use that towards Vega. I got a feeling the bubble is going to burst in 6 to 12 weeks.
