Hi all

I've been getting a project together lately and have got hold of i5 4690k and now I'm getting a MOBO Asus z97 Pro gamer DDR3

My question may sound silly but I'm a noob lol the RX480 says its DDR5 does that mean it won't fit or is that a completely different part of the MOBO

It just means the graphics card uses GDDR5. This is fixed to the board and not replaceable. The motherboard uses DDR3, which you purchase separately and install in the motherboard.

In short, you'll be fine. :)

No it'll be fine. The RX480 has GDDR5 video RAM (VRMAM), this is different to the "normal" system RAM that you use (in your case DDR3). The RX480 will fit into one of the PCIe slots (make sure to choose the fastest one, see your MOBO manual) and it will work perfectly.

The GDDR5 on the RX480 is the dedicated memory for the graphics card and is on the graphics card itself. It's completely separate thing from the system memory that goes into the motherboard RAM slots.

Don't worry about asking questions, we all start somewhere!

Thanks for all the answers, I now understand, I actually thought I was buffered and not able to buy a RX480 :D
