Higuys,

So I ordered one of the aoc 32" screens, I'm running on this hardware:

i5 3570K @ 4.0
RX 480 @ stock

My question is how well do you guys think this card will handle gaming @ 1440p?
If I am I going to be looking to upgrade, what would be the best bang for buck upgrade? I know the screen is freesync, but it seems like nvidia's range offers quite an improvement over AMD atm?

I had exactly this for a while. On medium setting should see decent frames. I played rainbow six siege which wasn't that taxing. Pubg had a mix of lows and mediums.

I've recently upgraded to a vega 64. Don't regret it. Gaming at 1440p with an RX 480 was fine imo. Perfectly playable. Just have to turn a bit of the eye candy off.

Best bang for buck now? On AMD? Probably Vega 56.

If not that possibly 1070ti or maybe 1080.

Sure someone will be a long to correct me if I'm wrong in the department.

I use my RX 480 @ 1300 MHz for 1440p. At near-max settings (max settings with a couple of the worst FPS offenders turned off), I get around 90-100 FPS on Overwatch and around 60 FPS on Divinity Original Sin 2. Overwatch rarely dips below 70 FPS (although it does all the time with newer drivers, annoyingly), whereas DoS2 easily drops below 30 FPS when there's lots of surfaces on the screen during a battle. Doom plays amazingly well, although I can't remember exact FPS figures since it's been a while.

Personally adaptive sync is too good to lose but if you're happy without it then nVidia certainly offer more in the high end GPU space. Otherwise your options are RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64, although there aren't (m)any third party cards out yet.

@DragonQ Cheers - that actually sounds like pretty decent performance. Certanly sounds like it's worth hanging on to my msi card for a lil while to see how much I can eek out of it until I need to jump on the upgrade wagon. I've not had a screen before with adapive sync, so have no experience to compare with.

I have a 1080Ti now (moved to 3440x1440p), but used a rx480 for the previous screen (2560x1440p) and it did really damn well. I believe on high settings BF1 was over 60fps almost all the time, and most games were able to be played at high.

I personally think Polaris is pretty underrated. Great cards.

I'm using a 480 with a 3440x1440 and it's fine with tweaks to the game settings, I've been playing Mass Effect Andromeda this week and it was okay, While it's not an ideal match it can game at the higher resolutions, I played a bit of Crysis 2 as well yesterday.
