Well as some of you know, I've been the proud owner of a limited edition Evolve RX8 called Roxy for the past 3 years. She's been epic, not a thing gone wrong on her... some mild changes; BSR Coilovers, lowered, cross drilled grooved, remap, full exhaust etc... but all tastfully done.

Well, on Tuesday she let go of her rotors and bearings and went boom... on 73k miles... so it's now in Silver Fern Performance with the Rotary god Dwayne.

So, this now leaves me in a dilema...

a). Do I scrap or dismantle her? Scrap would be £1k for spare and repairs non runner or I take her apart. WOULD BE GUTTED AND DON'T wanna do this.

b). Simply replace engine with brand new Mazda one knowing that it's going to go again at some point BUT it's back to working... circa £3k-3.5k TBC

c). RX7 FD3 engine pumping out around 340bhp and 250lbs of torque... probably around the £8k region.

Eiether way I'm out of pocket. Rest of car is mint... and running like a dream... what to do... what to do...???

FD3! I always thought the only thing the RX8 lacked was power, and this seems like a good solution :)
Surely you can get a built engine for less than £8k?

3-5k for an engine, is that brand new or used? If used that is crazy money for what is essentially a crap engine to be blunt. Drinks oil, sounds pooh, poor MPG and no torques, if new not so bad but if used far too much!

Can you not get a rebuilt engine with say some warranty for sub 2k?

If not I'd break the car into bits and sell it off and then put the money towards something else.

Always had a soft spot for these and have a history of buying cars with engines made out of cheese. With that being said I wouldn't mind one of these as a third car. I say spend a few quid on it and make it work. 3k actually sounds reasonable for an engine rebuild.

If I loved the car, and had the finds I would consider a engine swap to something else. Might be an opportunity to build a track car or such.

It's a what? £2-2.5k car? If you have to spend serious money on it, then go balls deep and do it right. I'd be aiming for 350+ BHP if you are having to spend more than the car is worth.

Can you not get a skyline GTR engine in there for less than £8k? Or I know of a motor on a local forum with a V8 in the bay of an RX8.

Mirrors what I think of the m96 911 lump to be honest. Mind you isn't it the fact that it isn't just another 4 pot what makes it interesting and a bit special? If you buy a car with known engine issues then it should really be no surprise when all goes pop.

Also to everybody suggesting an engine swap, its the engine in the RX8 that makes it special in the first place, small, compact, light and revvy. It rides and handle like it does because of the engine, remove the rotary and you no longer have and RX8. Why would you pull that out and put anything over than another wankle in it?

Also an rx7 turbo jobbie would be cool.

Agree with the V8 :D

Don't put an RX7 engine in it, just buy an RX7 for that!

Go to town... brand new RX8 engine and whack a turbo on it.
