RYSE

Looks nice but it seems to be quicktime event followed by multiple quicktime events, I hate that rubbish.....just let me play myself not the game tell me what to do.

No apparently the quicktime events are only there to use if you want extra skill points, you don't have to use them:)

Shouldn't be in there full stop, X must be the finishing move button so just leave it at that. We should be able to learn stuff like this like we did before QTE's, If you can't time it right then you don't do a power move or combo etc. Too many games dumbed down for the masses, Imagine street fighter or similar with QTE's :D

I'm sure one of the developers said the QTE's were merely there to showcase the game and won't feature as much in the full game.

Quicktime events don't strike me as something you would use to showcase a game. They put most people right off, I know I cringed the moment I saw them. :p

They did say they changed the combat for the showcase, said it would be slower and more tactical. Who knows, I'll wait until I've seen more.

Looks awesome graphically. If they can pull off the story and gameplay like they say they're aiming for it could be something great. Will deffo keep an eye in this one.

They are saying that, but its BS. Watch the video, up on the tower you have the guy go into an "event" he pulls his leg back to kick him off the ledge.... they it says "YYYYYY", so what the hell happens if you don't press Y, he decides to not kick the guy off the freaking ledge? Same with almost all of these, he goes into an execution and pulls his arm back ready to swing and cut his throat, then tells you to press a button.... but you don't have to press the button.... great. What he's saying is you don't have to press B to go into a QTE for each kill... but we've all played these games before, non QTE execution means taking ages to kill everyone, while killing a stunned or execution ready enemy makes it an instant kill and probably makes you immune to damage during the animation.... and probably stops all enemies actually attackign you while it happens.... It seems incredibly basic, just pretty and very very basic.

AS Spookywillow said, just have an execution button. I have no idea why people make prettier games look more realistic then flash ruddy glowing button labels all over the screen... it looks completely absurd. This easy mode combat, hit everyone once then press whatever button it tells you to on screen... then lose control basically . It seems to be press B(which is above everyone after basically one hit) to go into execution mode, then he's already doing the action and it wants you to press a random button it decides AFTER he's basically done 90% of the action already, feels utterly stupid to me.

THese things are very cool, executions, finishing moves.... for about 5 fights, then you just get bored with being constantly out of control, it becomes boring almost straight away. Countering and deflecting in Assassins creed was great, for about 10 mins, but then it was dull as hell.

If its not significantly more complex than the video showed and significantly more tactical...which is very worrying as they said they slowed down and made the video "more tactical" to show it off, then I think it will be a very pretty pile of turd.

From one report I watched, this was meant to be a kinnect game to start with. Somewhere along the line the gameplay chance from act line a monkey at points in the game to qte, they said that was a quick change and was only to demo the game, when people stated it for be a qte game.

They said the game play has changed at comic com.. And will change again before release..

Basically they got a good looking video, but not a game as they can't decide on how the player is going to interact with it.

FWIW I'm about half-way through Ryse, and while what they say is true in terms of it being pretty much the same thing all the way through, the graphics and locations tend to make up for any short comings. It's genuinely the best looking console game I've played.

The actual fighting mechanics aren't really that different to something like God of War, or even Assassins Creed, it's just that those games have other things to do, whereas Ryse is the same all the way which makes it a bit samey. I did play it for 3 hours solid the other night, which is actually quite rare for me, so it must be doing something right.

Finished Ryse last night.

Visually it's stunning, far and away the prettiest console game I've ever played.

Story is decent enough but the gameplay is only a C+. Just as Nismo said, it plays like the fighting aspects of God of War or a Batman style title... but there's nothing much else to do.

The elements it introduces like micromanaging archers and army defences during large scale battles are great fun but are few and far between and it's often "you vs. 5 other guys" rinse and repeat style gameplay.

What's worse is if you actually watch the AI friendlies battling the AI enemies, it's almost comical - imagine the 1960's Batman TV Show where Batman and Robin were the main people fighting whilst everyone else almost pretended to fight in the background.

It's a good game, but it's almost a tech demo of what the Xbox One can do visually. It's certainly enjoyable, but it's nothing to write home about.

Once this game comes down in price, like hell im going to pay £40+ for it...ill pick it up myself. Its a game that originally i wasnt interested in but now after seeing it a few times, i want to get it but not at the price its selling for.

Played 30 mins on it last night and it's very pretty and fun to play. Look forward to continuing on it later after work.

Played through the swamp level and York last night, best bits of the game so far IMO.

Will hopefully get through the last 2 chapters tonight, unless I've killed myself on Xbox Fitness :p

Loving this game, completed it and wanna do it all again! Tried multiplayer, it's kind of cool, needs to be more challenging imo though.

Well I finished this on Centurion difficulty last night in just over 8 hours.

It's one of those games that I saw at E3 and thought this may go one of two ways I'll either love it or get irritated by it. Turns out I actually really enjoyed this and need to now collect everything and finish it on Legendary.

It's not a perfect game by any means but it shows the potential I think of the Xbox One. The scenery is lovely to look at, the combat is fun if a little repetitive/frustrating at times (blocking multiple opponents), the story is a little bland and fairly predictable at points but if you overlook these it is a fun game and I didn't think, right I need this to be done I am bored already.

It does seem that the development team had either been watching a lot of the 300 or Spartacus to get some inspiration for the execution QTE's. The first time I performed one I though oh! that's going to hurt and then when you get more into it you are hoping to see some new method of execution.

I liked how you could incorporate the environment for the combat (even if it was limited and I stumbled on it by accident)

The main issue I think I had with the game was the general movement and lack of depth in the combat system. It reminded me a lot of the early AC games and I think Crytek could have done so much more to try and make this more engaging. How I'm not sure but maybe providing a bit more of a combo orientated combat system would have been interesting to see.

I personally would give this a solid 7 it's enjoyable and fun and nice to just turn the brain off for a bit. I guess with a bit more practice I may be able to do perfect strikes on a more regular basis rather than just the odd occasion.
