Ryzen 1600 for Project Cars VR

Just reading a review on one of the new Intel CPUs here http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/intel-core-i7-7740x-kaby-lake-x-cpu,review-33948-6.html
Seems that a 4Ghz 1600 can only just about reach 90fps required before ASW kicks in

Now at the resolution of VR 2160 x 1200 it's never going to get there at top settings.
I was thinking of getting a 1080Ti but seems again my CPU (3.85Ghz R5 1600) is lacking, or am I misunderstanding something here?

Your CPU will be fine, you are looking at 2D benchmarks. What GPU do you have now?

Currently have GTX 1070
If I add 20+ cars to a race for example I get constant 45fps until I'm away from them. Same with Asseto Corsa.
Guess I just need to check CPU myself load to see if that's where the bottleneck is. Have played about with dropping settings here and there. Actually looking at the graphs again none of the CPUs give above minimum 90fps
