Ryzen 1700 vs 1500x/1600

Im trying to figure out what i want in my next build, price vs performance for the best bang for the buck. Ryzen 1700 vs 1500x/1600 does anyone have a comparison, is it just the extra core ?

Ignore the 1500x.

I was choosing between the 1600 and 1700 2 weeks ago. Put the question on here and most people sided with the 1700 because the extra cores games will make use of in the future. 1600 is just as good if you only will be doing gaming and nothing else.

I went with a slightly more expensive board than I normally would, the Gigabyte Gaming 5 and the 1600. My thinking was the 1600 is a huge upgrade over my old 3570K having better IPC, 2 extra cores and 8 extra threads. But also that the next iteration of the Zen architecture which I believe is scheduled around the end of next year should improve on the design/current flaws and I can go to the 8 core SKU then for a relatively cheap upgrade.

I don't think its really fair to say you'd only go for a 1600 for gaming, 6 cores and 12 threads is pretty useful for productivity as well and a good all round workhorse.

From a quick look online a few sites are reporting new AMD updates are meant to come end 2017 / H1 2018 my only fear is the new cpus may be the case of bulldozer vs Vishera and they may change socket, with that said should I hold out a little longer or take the jump.

also looking at the AMD site they will be launching a ryzen pro CPU end of the year will that just be commercial CPU ?

in the past my 8 core did not do much but with my luck after buying a 4 core, more cores will start getting used .

I was on two minds go for a lower end Cpu and upgrade a bit later to save some money but it's likely once i get the money together we should have a slight price drop.

So the suggestion is 1700,1600 or wait ?

Regarding the socket change, nothing is guaranteed of course but numerous quotes from AMD have made it clear they want current motherboards to support the next 2 to 3 years generation of chips. This is part of the reason I went with the better MB and cheaper CPU option, I saved almost £100 on going with the 1600 over the 1700.

As others have said above though, if you have no intention of upgrading to Zen+ (or whatever its going to be called) in a year or two though I'd go with the 1700 or wait to see what the next generation offers next year.

I went 1700 and Crosshair before they released the 1600. It was my next major upgrade from the 8350 (although I tried a 9590 in between). It has been a flawless experience so far. I bought 16GB 3200 C14 DDR4 ram in expectation and that is now working at 3200MHz.

Go with either CPU, AMD said they would keep AM4 for at least two generations. I spent a bit more on the mobo and ram but the whole lot came to £719. Processor may be cheaper, DDR4 may be more expensive now.

If it is for a gaming build,I would get the Ryzen 5 1600 and spend the money saved on your graphics card.

I do use my PC for more then gaming but Ive had the fx 8320 for sometime so im not sure which way to go.

What kind of funding would i be looking at for a ryzen setup ?

Ive not been in the full loop for sometime Im not even sure what kind of ram i would need.

I have an IB Core i7 and I use it for non-gaming stuff - outside of gaming the Ryzen 5 1600X for example can hold its own against a BW-E Core i7 6800K,hence a Ryzen 5 1600 should have plenty of performance out of gaming. If you are still using an R9 280X,the £100 saved would be better put towards a faster graphics card IMHO OFC!!

I sold my FX9590 for £110, Asrock AM3+ for £60 and DDR3 for £40(mates rate)

I'm not even sure how much the upgrade would cost me or what GPU I would be looking at, I thought i should look at one thing at a time.

Do you guys have any suggestion.

I would like to save in area where possible.

Im assuming i would be lucky to get near that if i waited much longer.

Got my 1700 for £273, MSI X370 SLI Plus motherboard was £60 (new from MM) but retail is £145 and 16gb DDR4 RAM for £60. This was basic ram as I wont be overclocking.

Sold my 8320, Asus AM3+ motherboard, 16gb DDR3 and old PCI GPU for £100 on eBay once you take away the fees.

Damn. Good going. That 1080 is going to fly. Same CPU I have and difference in games from my x58 setup was epic

I went 1700 for 279, gaming 5 x370 for 179 and overkill on 3600 RGB memory for 200.

Thanks guys you have helped me out and given me something to think about, for me it will all come down to price v performance.

Ryzen 1700 vs Ryzen 1600
The difference in price is around £100 between the 2 CPUs for the extra core.

Would I get anything more out of the 1700s extra 2 cores at this point in time ?
both still overclock the same am I correct ?

sent the 1700 back and went for the 1600 as i only game tbh.. got it @4ghz atm only gamed so how stable that is not sure

What boards are you guys using ?
A lot of people say get a good x370 like the Asus crosshair VI Hero you can get better results.at the same time others say get a b350 and save the money.
