Ryzen 2600x Running Hot

Hi Guys, Long time fan but silent observer. A question regarding my new 2600x is it normal to run so hot, the package temp got up to 99 degrees as recorded in HWmonitor. I am not getting any throttling that I am aware of and have been playing Anthem for the last 3 hours but the top temp is concerning me.

I am using the stock cooler but have not done any overclocking. It can idle around the mid 40s.

Is there anything to be concerned over, or should I resit the cooler?

Thanks

Not good man. Use HWiNFO64 instead of HWmonitor, and confirm those temps. Mid-40s on idle is high as well.

It should throttle for safety if it needs to but you do have to get those temps down ASAP. May even be motherboard with voltage too high if not the cooler not mounted properly and making enough contact. What motherboard and case are you using?

Defo use HWiNFO64. My 2700X is idling at 25.1c @ 2.2Ghz at the moment in a room where the ambient temp is 20.5c. If i hit the cpu all cores at 4.25Ghz the highest temps i see are between 63c and 65c under any stress test.

I would defo re-seat the cooler.

Curious. My 2700X at stock idled at 3Ghz.

cooler not installed properly?
removed the protective plastic coating before installing the cooler?
what case do you have and how much fans/ventilation?
gpu overcooking itself too?

Mine isn't at stock as such. PBO enabled and a PE4 set in the bios. That said, it has never idled at 3Ghz...................it has always been at 2.2Ghz when it downclocks.

Does the cooler feel hot to the touch when benching the CPU? If not then reseat the cooler, also check the thermal compound, too much or too little, replace if needed.

My 1700 idles at 1550MHz, yours may be different as I don't know what the 2600z idles at, but the lower it idles the less heat it produces(basically).

Agree with the posts above. Sounds like poor contact between cooler and cpu. I would suggest reseating sooner (you will need fresh thermal paste) and rechecking temps.

My wife’s 2700x runs in the mid 60’s during Anthem albeit under a rebadged Hyper 212. I would expect a 2600 to be in the 60-70 range at “stock”.

HI guys,

So refitted the CPU used Kryanaut grease, temps dropped a little. so decide to play Apex temp were reasonable ( around 60-65c), Darksiders3 a little less. Maybe Anthem runs the cpu hotter than the rest, is that a reasonable assumption?

What case and GPU are you using and how are you getting airflow through the case? If the GPU is chucking out heat during heavy gaming and the case isn't exhausting it, then the CPU is trying to cool itself with the hot air from the GPU so temps will be higher.

Ignore me. Realised afterwards mine is set to boost to 4.5Ghz, idle is upped as well.

To confirm all it takes is to run Cinebench which only lasts about a minute. That uses all cores but without the crazy temps of programs with AVX instructions.
