Hi all

I have been reading the latest Custom PC mag and they are talking about the Hype of Ryzen 3 1200... Is it going to be as great as they are making out for £99, I currently have a G4560 and have been thinking of moving across but not sure of its an upgrade or just a side move..

Or maybe a bit more cash towards 1300

What's your opinions?

It depends on what games/programs you are using.

You'll have to factor in prices of a new motherboard and probably some faster DDR4 3000/3200Mhz ram to get the full potential out of the ryzen 1200.

If you plan on overclocking, then you should easily get the R3 1200 to 1300x speeds and possibly beyond.

There's a good video here that shows some gaming differences of the G4560 vs the R3 1200/1300X at stock clocks (so expect the results to be better on the R3's once you overclock too)

I don't have much purchasing power at the moment unfortunately, but I really want to get on the Ryzen side of things. Getting a quad core without SMT seems wrong but it may be feasible for me so I am interested as a stop gap just to get my PC up and running again.

Really sucks that DDR4 prices are so high though.

I've just received my Ryzen 1300X and 3000mhz ddr4, Will be great to get it up and running and see how it performs...

I was going to say that as long as you get a decent 350 motherboard and ram, then it looks like a nice budget quad - although you're committed now so I'll just hope that you did :D

AMD are promising the AM4 socket to last a good long while, so as a stopgap measure a cheap Ryzen 3 is pretty good and only leaves you looking to find money for another CPU in 12 months or so :)

Close to pulling the trigger on a Ryzen system now. Trying to decide if I should buy DDR4 memory now, or hope for a sale as it is just silly money for even C16 3200 now. (Even 2400 is stupidly priced as well.)

I know what you mean bud.. i have 8GB HyperX @ 3000mhz that was £75  I'm happy with my Ryzen 1300X and only have a stock cooler... The AMD stock cooler looks pretty ace compared to Intel's :D

I don't want to settle for only 8gb, but prices are silly at the moment and I have of things to buy for my new house.

Looking forward to seeing your build.

Once funds come available for me (bills to pay) I shall swap 8gb for 16gb but like you say prices are mad... I will try get a decent pic of my build and update it to Case gallery on here

Was looking at youtube reviews of 1200 vs 1400 and 1600/1700 etc. Some show barely any difference in games, others show sensible differences. Not sure what to make of it.

Bottom line, wife is saying OK to the R5 1600, as I would probably always be wanting more than a 4 core... so about to pull the trigger on 1600 + tomahawk motherboard.

Still interested in your build though minibiker :)

Still working on the memory option as it is so expensive lol. (all this to pair with a donated 4870 GPU that I don't know if it even works haha).

Mate has the same setup but with 2933MHZ Adata Z1 RAM.

I've got the 1300X for now and will upgrade my RAM and CPU (Probably R5 1600) over the next year.. on a budget at the moment, Got to admit though the 1300 performs great for the price and core count.. I'm sure your build will be very capable, just make sure your GPU is working, If not mot money needed to spend :p

That is a really nice setup there :) Quite like that small case you have as well.

Been looking at memory, and the cheaper ddr4 (around 130-140) seems like it may not be compatible with Ryzen. C14 stuff is silly money, as it anything above 3200 (in order to reduce the timings).
