I'm also waiting for the B550 to be released before I decide what do for a friend's build; but I'm expecting to go with a B450 board though, as the B550 prices look to be a quite an increase over the B450 equivalents, at least judging by post #109

If those prices are indeed fairly accurate and we can expect a $ to £ equivalent, then many boards are going to work out £50 more expensive than the B450 variant. Those are just MSI boards, but all B550 boards will be more expensive.
If you do decide to go with a B450, then an MSI MAX board will be the best bet, as they come Ryzen 3000 ready, so no flashing required. With non MAX boards or boards from other brands, then you'll likely have to flash the BIOS in order to use a Ryzen 3000 CPU. That's the main reason why I went with a MSI Mortar MAX when I built my current PC with a 3600. It's a good board anyway, but being Ryzen 3000 ready saves a load of hassle.
