Ryzen 3 new build won't boot up??

I am experienced with PC builds but not with Ryzen.

I am current using:

  • a Ryzen 3 1300X CPU,
  • an ASUS Prime B350-PLUS mother board,
  • a ZOTAC Geforce GTX 1050ti mini graphics card (plugged into the grey PCIeX16_1 slot),
  • 2 off SK hynix 8Gb 2133 Mhz RAM (plugged into slots 2 & 4) and
  • a 550W power supply (with 1 x 24 pin connector, 1 x 4 pin connector, 2 x SATA connectors and 3 X MOLEX connectors).
All connections, cards, front panel wires and CPU are installed correctly and checked.

When powered up the power LED lights up, the LEDs at the graphics card ports light up, fans on the CPU, graphics card, case, power supply start up and the Hard Drive powers up but I get nothing on the monitor or a boot up.

I'm not sure if I require a power supply with an 8 pin connector and not the 4 pin (which I was lead to believe is compatible with the Ryzen mother board) and it appears the reset button on the case doesn't operate (although this might be a separate issue).

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction please?

Hi guys, apologies for the delay! I changed the power supply and still nothing. I also tried the recommendations using only 1 RAM and checked the version of BIOS on the motherboard (which was more than up to date) and still nothing. I am thinking that either the motherboard is a dud or the CPU??

Apologies for the delay in responding, it has been the most frustrating time with this issue.
I have changed and upgraded the case, I have upgraded the power supply to an Aerocool Integrator 500W 12cm bronze 85% efficiency PSU and I have changed the motherboard to a GIGABYTE GA-AB350M-Gaming 3 AMD Ryzen CPU AM4 Socket DDR4 PCIe Gen3 USB 3.1 GB LAN Micro ATX Motherboard and I still have no boot up.
The only thing I haven’t changed Ryzen 3 itself, could it have been this causing the issue?

Hi
I did find a solution and learned a lot about Ryzen builds in the process. It was frustrating and cost a few pennies more but definitely worth it in the end.
It’s not necessarily a RAM issue although I didn’t end up using that RAM in the end, I opted to use some 8GB CORSAIR 2666Mhz sticks to be sure there were no compatibility issues; I used a model from the list of compatible components listed on the Ryzen website.
The issue is and always will be the version of BIOS on the motherboard!! I had no way of updating it so if you’re PC isn’t booting up or posting then you’re at a bit of a loss unless you were lucky enough to have bought a MB with the most up to date version already installed!
I spoke to the tech guys at SCAN COMPUTERS in Bolton and these guys not only sell the components they will update the BIOS before sending it out (you do have to request it!) but, they knew precisely what the issue was as soon as I mentioned that I was using a Ryzen CPU!
I replaced the MB, connected up and the new build was up and running within 20 minutes!
Remember too that you must connect your monitor to the separate graphics card

My build did work with that ram but only after having the BIOS updated. It was ‘clunky’ and sluggish hence why I changed it.
It’s very hard to tell which version of BIOS the board is shipped with, even manufactures can’t be sure. As it turned out, even though I’d bought a new motherboard manufactured in 2017 it had only version 2 bios, Ryzen needs version 6 (I’ve no idea what the versions are!!)
There was another tip these tech guys pointed out. If your PC is powered up as expected but not posting or booting try pressing the reset button....if you’re connected properly and nothing happened ie no reset happens, this is also a good indicator that the bios is the wrong version.
Good luck.
