Hello everyone.I start this thread because i don t know what to do with the overheating problem with my cpu.It runs 55 degrees on idle and 98-100 degrees when is on heavy load.I use core temp app to monitorise the temperatures. Can someone tell me if this app is ok to check the temps, and,if yes, what can i do about that temps.I have the stock cooler installed.
I have the following components on my computer:
CoolerMaster MasterWatt 650 - 650W 80 Plus Bronze Semi Modular Power Supply
Zalman Z7 Neo Midi-Tower Case - Black
Seagate 2TB BarraCuda 7200RPM 256MB Cache Internal Hard Drive (ST2000DM008)
WD Green 3D NAND 240GB M.2 2280 Solid State Drive (WDS240G2G0B)
Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit
KFA2 GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER EX 1CLICK-OC 8192MB GDDR6
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Six Core 4.2GHz
MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard

Hi Gabriel,

What is the temp on your Gfx card? Coretemp is probably OK but there have been issues with the way Ryzen polls and 3rd party apps not polling correctly. HWinfo is pretty good.

Both the CPU and the gfx card will be dumping the heat into the case so If you have that case with 3 intake and 1 exhaust it will be under positive pressure and not exhuasting the heat efficiently. Easy to test. TAke the sides off the case and then see what happens. Also the stock thermal paste on the bottom of the stock AMD coolers hasn't been the best. MY betting is that your case isn't efficiently ventilating.

Take the sides off and monitor the temps again. If they are lower then your case ventilation is probably the culprit.

Download HWiNFO and Ryzen Master and see what they have to say. I don't know if Core Temp is accurate or not, but those two certainly are (and report temperatures in two different ways, so give a better overall picture).

If you use the stock paste, then that would be why the high temp. But i think a remount might help. But change the paste to something better like MX-4. Or, invest on a better cooler for like 35 pounds or so. I think the 3600 only comes with the Stealth and it is the worst stock cooler among the Ryzen coolers.

This will look and work better.

This was how i applied the paste. Two parallel lines.

This really. I have a Dark Rock Pro 4 and it cools it very nicely. Right this moment I am at 33C as I type this :)

Never ever seen it go to 80C. Max was around 76C I think and that was when I overclocked it to 4.5GHz on all cores and run benches.

The temps of my gpu are 41 degrees on idle and 65 degrees on heavy load, rarely going to 67-68.I had a problem with the ventilation of the case, but i managed it.I have a posted threat separately about that.
The attachement is with the temps that i have right now.I switched the power plan from amd high performance to balanced but the temps are the same.

I had a similar issue with my fairly recently purchased 2600X system.

My fix was to purchase and install a new AiO cooler and a couple of new case fans. Mine was only $40 and is incredibly good value and performance means I now no longer have to worry about heat, It still gets warm, up to 80degC under heavy load, but it is stable at that max temperature. I also bought a kit of paste, cleaner and pre-paste preparation chemicals to fit the AiO properly and removed the 2600X CPU from the ZIF slot to clean and prepare it prior to re-fitting and applying the paste. Worked really nicely and this is the first time I'd ever done that kind of job.

I tried to remount the cooler but it does exactly the same thing.

If you are going to use the stock cooler for awhile i suggest you undervolt a bit. Try a cpu vcore offset of -0.03v. It will prevent the vcore from shooting up to 1.47v. If you can go lower without losing stability, the better. But -0.03v offset, your cpu should still boost to 4.2GHz in one or two cores. Your Tdie temp is also high. Are you sure PBO is not enabled?

Also, after using Balance Power, go to Advance power settings>Click Change plan settings>Click Change advance power settings>scroll down to Processor power management>Click Minimum Power State> Set it to 25% (mine is set to 5% lol).

I read somewhere that there is a batch of poor 3600's that have high temp, due to poor soldering, but I cant find it now, thought I would mention it anyway.

You dont need to pay a lot of money for a cooler just get the Snowman HSF. It's one of the best coolers around and insanely cheap.

Google for where to buy - it's like £15 or around £18 for the RGB version and it is very good. Class leading and almost silent.

Let's check the basics before buying anything. Are you mounting the cooler the right way around? I remember mounting the cooler incorrectly on a Pentium D such that it wasn't making contact and I burned out the CPU. Is the fan on the cooler working? Have you plugged it in to the right header on the motherboard? Have you reapplied thermal paste?

How you applied the thermal paste? Please take into consideration that Ryzen 3000 aren't monolithic CPUs, and the cores are not on the center of the cap. You have to spread the paste across the surface, using good quality one.

Also we do need a pick of you case/cpu etc installation to have a better idea what your issue is.
