Ryzen 3600x, wont boot at 1.35v??

So im using a MSI 450 Gaming Plus Max with my Ryzen 3600x, ive change the vcore for the cpu from 'AUTO' to 1.350v in the bios but it wont boot into windows. I was under the impression i should be able to select a lot lower voltage than this with the 3600x??
 
Try setting the CPU multiplier to 42 and see if that boots and if it does run a couple of benchmarks like cinebench R20 etc then keep increasing the multi by 1 and rinse and repeat till you find the max frequency that it will run at.

So v1.350 is a good value to set or can it go lower?
 
You can go lower if you want, 1.3v is a good place to start at then when it gets to the point that it crashes in cinebench you either need to back the frequency down or up the voltage.

I set The CPU Ratio to 4.2 and i had to up the voltage to 1.3250 to get it to boot in windows

But i have noticed as ive set the CPU ratio to 4.2 its constantly at that clock speed and doesnt drop
 
It does down clock and sleep but you can only see this in ryzen master.

If it needed 1.325 just to make it into Windows at 4.2 then unfortunately it looks like you don't have a great sample. If you can't hit 4.4 with the all core clock at reasonable voltages then your probably best just running at stock else you will lose the single core boosting.

Tbh i dont want to overclock it just wanted to set lower temps so it would run cooler
 
So even at 1.35v Cinebench closes down!!!. Not sure if theres anything else i should be tweaking....

run cpuz .. whats the vid on the chip ? that will tell you the least you can set it at ..may be you lucked out on the silicone lottery and it needs to be run higher ...

That value just depending on what voltage ive set in the bios, its not a static value
 
Personally wouldn't run anywhere near 1.35v, put it back to default run prime 95 small FFT for 10 minutes see what you vcore has settled to, this is considered max safe vcore you should use

OK, ill set it back to default so everything will be on Auto and ill run Prime and post pictures
 
CPU core voltage (SVI2 TFN) = 1.288v is your max recommended, there will be a touch of voltage drop you will need to do some testing

Any ideas why if i set a manual clock of 4.4Ghz (so no actual overclock) i need to set the voltage to 1.35v to get it to be stable when stressing Prime. If leaving vcore at AUTO it seems to go as high as 1.4v which is way too much

Unless there some options im missing in the MSI Gaming Plus Max BIOS??....i have tried looking for an OC guide for this mobo but haven't found one yet
 
I mostly agree, but have no idea about what uses he has in mind

Just general browsing, gaming and some video editing. As i said im not looking to go over what the stock clocks are, just wanted noticed the voltage when set to auto seemed high. Setting a All core clock to 4.2 and voltage to 1.280v still seems to crash the system when i ran Prime95
 
That's just how the voltages work on these ryzen CPUs, up to 1.5v for light SC loads is perfectly fine according to AMD, the heavier the load and more cores being worked causes the voltage to decrease accordingly.

Ok then, just a few were saying anything over 1.325 was not recommended.

with a vcore of around 1.325 @ 4.2 im able to run Prime95 for 20 minutes without issues and keeping below 81c......i may add a 2nd fan to my heatsink for a push pull config to get the temps a bit lower.

I am wonder if its best to go the route of what no idea what suggested on the first page and just leave the voltage on Auto and set an offset of -100 mV.

Just when leaving the vcore on auto HWInfo reports a Max of around 1.438v which seems alarming to me, not sure at what point it hit that though as when running prime95 its only about 1.243v average
 
I doubt it will be stable at -100mv, -.050mv maybe more realistic.

Your probably right.

Even at default BIOS settings the voltage it set the cpu is on the high side right?.....

If i set the CPU from auti to 4.2 does that also lock the single core performance to 4.2??. As leaving it as Auto the system isnt even stable at 1.35v, but setting it at 4.2 it appears to be stable

The advertised 4.2 multicore and 4.4 single core performance aren't guaranteed right?
 
You should atleast have 1 core able to hit 4.4 at stock although all core boost will probably settle between 3.9 ~ 4.2 depending on how heavy the load is.

Tbh at this point I'd probably just leave it all on auto and if you want to lower temps then manually adjust the CPU fan speed in the bios to spin up more once it hits 70C.

Yeah i cant see an option that relates to setting a single core speed.......unless thats the CCX option???....as i said im new to AMD
 
It does seem odd though as if i leave everything on auto apart from setting an offset of 0.050mV when start a Prime stress test the voltage according to Ryzen Master is 1.312v yet if i was to set this voltage in the Bios and even a bit more Prime would fail straight away
 
Well some head way appears to have been made!!!

So in my bios under the CPU Core Voltage, it gives you a few options:

AUTO
Override
Offset
Override + Offset
AMD Overclock

Before i never even bothered selecting AMD Overclock, but have tried that option and im currently able to boot into Windows and am currently stress testing Prime @ 1.27v!!. With Per CCX 38.00 & 40.00

Im not sure what this AMD Overclock option has changed from not being able to get stable @ 1.350v using the 'Override' option to now being able to @1.27!??


One thing i have noticed is In Ryzen Master, under the PCU Votlaage section the current voltage never seems to change and is always the same as the Maximum voltage
