Hi,

thinking about going from my 3900x to 5800x, I only use the pc for gaming, is it worth the upgrade? I run at 1440p, with 3600mhz ram and rtx 3070.

I got the 3900x as was an upgrade from the 3600x

Thanks

If you can flip the 3900X for a similar amount that the 5800X is maybe worth doing but in performance terms I doubt you would see much improvement.

You'll see a small boost in fps in certain games at 1440p. If you are running a high refresh rate monitor it might be worthwhile, otherwise you won't notice any difference.

I did similar. However I was able to retain my 3900x in another pc. IPC is greater obviously. Gaming yes tiny improvement if your after 1440p gaming high fps. 5800x is a hot little beast but if your going from one to another as an upgrade. Nah. Just sit on the cash and wait along with the hundreds of thousands graphics cards owner's.

Not worth it, you're going to find yourself GPU limited most of the time, even with the RTX3070.

I'll probably upgrade to a 5900 when new CPU's get released and prices have dropped just to extend the live of the system

I made the same switch. Combined with a 3090, gaming at 80 to 120 fps, generally, frame rates improved in some scenarios. Not night and day but worth it to me, and it cost me 70 quid to switch at the time (you may do better)
