Hi wondering if it was worth it to upgrade the above on a b450 msi ac carbon pro ac board, or bide my time and go for a new set up later on in the year, not used for gaming but wondering if I could get a speed increase, any help ?
Thanks

wait for 5600x to be 150 quid.

Never going to happen. Unless you buy used.

Not sure that board will support a Ryzen 5000 CPU, if you want a boost in performance there are used Ryzen 3700X floating around, can't say how much they cost due to forum rules. your board will support those, you may need to up-date the BIOS.

To give you an idea.

Cinebench R20:

ST
2600, 375
3700X, 500 (+33%)

MT
2600, 2736
3700X, 4834 (+77%)

I know history is no guarantee, but it did happen before. The 2700 was something like £130 for quite awhile (the 2600 was around £110 iirc?), for example.

have a check for updates, I had a 2600 on my b450 Tomahawk, I was able to update the bios and install my 5600x with no issues.

The B450 pro carbon does indeed support ryzen 5000 with a bios update but whether it's worth upgrading to one right now, waiting till prices drop further or even going for a cheaper 3000 series with more cores for less money will depend on the use case.
