Hi folks, hoping to upgrade within the next few weeks. Likely when the custom coolers come out for the 5700 GPUs.

Would most agree going from a 4770K be a worthwhile upgrade to the 3600? I've researched plenty already on the 3600 vs 3600X vs 3700X etc. Everyone seems to say for gaming only, the 3600 is a no brainer...

I'd appreciate any thoughts on the spec or suggestions? Looking to front-mount the AIO CPU rad/cooler, then use the 120mm fan on the case rear to suit.

Current Specs:
Intel i7 4770K (with Corsair Hydro H110 AIO)
ASUS ROG Maximus VI HERO Z87 (Socket 1150)
AMD Vega 56 GPU
16GB Kingston HyperX Savage DDR3 2400MHz
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
Seagate 3TB HDD
Corsair Carbide 330R Case

I game on a Dell S2719DGF @ 1440p. Don't mind turning the odd graphic setting down to keep my FPS healthy.

This is what my basket is currently looking like. As you can tell I'm going for a fairly white theme :D Gutted I can't find any nice white X570 mobos, there is the Asus ones but I'm not keen on them and I think they have less power phases.

The GPU is a placeholder for when the custom coolers are released (mid-August I believe?).

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,297.00 (includes shipping: £13.20)

(also be buying this Corsair RMx 850W White PSU to match the theme ;))

2080 Super talking £300-350 extra aren't we? Pushing my budget past where I'd want it tbh, is it really worth it :o

I was debating not getting a new GPU and holding off on that til next wave, if the performance boost isn't too great.

In which case I could order a lot sooner if the rest of the spec looks in order.

@tamzzy I can't justify losing my bling, I'll likely go for the black Corsair psu though. As did think the shroud covers it anyway. :D

@orbitalwalsh cheers, from the odd review out there on the 2070 Super it doesn't appear to outperform the 5700 XT by much and loses in some. Such as these reviews for example. Or am I missing something?! And it's ~£140 more expensive. :o

I was hoping an AIO White 5700 XT came out soon :p But again is FPS increase over Vega 56 worth it? But then gaming @ 1440p is a struggle, so even 30% give or take would help me still.

Likely take your advice on the psu + cpu cooler/fans though. Cooling likely be just as good compared to the AIO and few quid saved there.

I thought someone on here said mid-August was expected for AIB cards? Or was that rubbish? I wouldn't get a reference blower 5700 GPU anyway, was just a basket placeholder :p No chance lol

I'm already running a Vega 56 just to clarify :) But if a 2070 Super is really much better, I may well invest in one then... Yes I'm running 1440p 144Hz on my S2719DGF so may need it.

I'm now wondering whether to upgrade my Vega 56 to a 5700 XT, 2070 Super, or keep it and wait for next refresh/gen of GPUs? The 2080 Super is mega bucks I'm struggling to justify lol.

Also the black Corsair RMx 750w PSU doesn't appear to be ~£85 anymore, back at £125. Fml :(

The MSI B450 whilst looks a bargain, I have OCD for investing in older tech... Now the X570 mobos are out? :o Ugh...

Is the 3700X really worth the £120 premium over 3600? For gaming only there doesn't seem to be any point.

But future proofing makes me think if the next few years games, will begin to take advantage of all these cores etc... then I'll see the benefit if I got the 3700X likely?

This rig has lasted me since August 2013... bar the few SSD upgrades and GPUs. Be nice if my next rig one could last the same.

Very true, I think I'll settle on the 3600 and maybe look at the 4000 series next year.

Just need to decide on the GPU now... where to go with that one :o

EDIT: meant the 3600 :D

OK so I'm fairly certain and happy to buy this lot now...

Any last minute thoughts or advice guys? Was hoping to find a more suited (white!) mobo but struggling, need convincing if the Asus X570-Pro is any good & worth purchasing?

  • Yes I'm trying to keep the white theme and spending a bit more £ to retain this. I just thought my current PC I can't see inside, if I'm going to glam it up and have a window case I can see inside, I'd like it to look good

  • Corsair RMx PSU isn't £85 anymore, cheapest is ~£120. So I can get this White 750W RMx for £115 elsewhere which is the plan now, also comes with white braided cables I believe which is a bonus.

  • Decided to YOLO for the 2070 Super as a GPU upgrade over my Vega 56 as I'm gaming @ 1440p 144Hz. Annoyingly the GPU is a chunk more expensive than the Asus deal @ £475, which has since also finished and shot up to ~£530

  • Debated swapping the H100i to the Alpenfohn, but reviews on the H100i temp wise seem great?

  • Settled on the 3600 as will be 99% gaming for me. If I ever feel it slouching I can upgrade next year to the 4000 CPUs if necessary.

  • Annoyingly I can't find a nice white X570 mobo. Looked at the Asus X570-Pro but reviews seem iffy whether it's worse than the Gigabyte and to stick with the GB, unless someone else has a better clue? From what I read the Gigabyte has better VRMs, Intel NIC etc... Hopefully the black/orange mix contrasts with the white ok

I've got the upgrade itch though, it's been 6 years and I need to itch... Looking at benchmarks the 3000 are still great upgrades, even over the 4770K I have now...

Tempted to wait a few weeks and see if the AIB 5700 XTs release and how they fair. But I do hate AMD drivers, my other BenQ monitor will not run @ 144Hz anymore since going to the Vega 56! Just my main Dell S2719DGF works fine at 155Hz.

Although just heard back from OcUk this morning, the GPU and MOBO are not in stock for another ~2 weeks and that's "all being well" :(

2080Ti is way too much for my liking. I only just managed to justify the 2070 Super, now toying with the 2080 Super but that's borderline lol.

Well as the current mobo and GPU I want are ~2 week wait, I may as well wait the 2 weeks before I even order. See how the market and AIB 5700 cards come in.
