8/10 core Intel Comet Lake CPUs seem to have similar performance to the 6 core 5600x, at least in Cyberpunk 2077, see link:

Should I just buy a cheap 8/10 core Comet Lake instead?

The 5800x seems too pricy right now.

Also, does anyone know how high you can overclock Comet Lake's memory controller at a 1:1 ratio?

Can I run a Comet Lake CPU with 4000mhz DDR4 RAM?

Can I run a 10700f or 10700kf on a Rocket Lake motherboard with DDR4 4000mhz RAM?

I've seen some websites testing DDR4 speeds on a Comet Lake 10600K. DDR4 @ 4000mhz came out on top in every game, link here:
https://www.purepc.pl/jaka-pamiec-ram-do-intel-core-i5-10600k-test-ddr4-2133-4000-mhz?page=0,17

Note - I've seen the Ryzen 5600X sold for ~£270

The good news is, even some B560 (Rocket Lake) motherboards seem to officially support some 4000mhz RAM modules, at least for Comet Lake CPUs. Example here:
https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B560M-HDV/index.asp#MemoryCML

This wasn't the case for the B460 motherboards.

I need some advice about DDR4 4 4000mhz RAM + Comet Lake please, as I'm ready to buy a new system now.

Will it work in a Rocket Lake board (B460 B560) that supports DDR4 4000mhz modules, with the memory controller at full speed?

I've got my eye on a pre-owned i7-10700KF...

Ok thanks. Does DDR4 4000mhz only work in Z series boards then?

Corrected - Why do some B560 boards list DDR4 4000 module support?

I've heard that the Comet Lake memory controller /IMC can handle DDR 4 4000mhz, perhaps higher with some module configs, is this true?

According to a TechPowerUp article, Comet Lake has "Native support for DDR4-2933 and higher memory clocks across the board: up to DDR4-4000 for two dual-rank modules, over DDR4-4800 for two single-rank modules". Link:

Apparently, with Intel generations older than Rocket Lake, such as Comet Lake and Coffee Lake, the memory controller always ran at a 1:1 ratio, quote here: "Gears refer to the frequency ratio between the memory controller and memory itself, which has historically been 1:1 on Intel parts."

Can someone confirm this is the case on Comet Lake CPUs please?

I don't really regard it as overclocking, RAM can be rated to run at 4000mhz (higher in some cases). It's operating beyond the officlal JEDEC DDR4 spec, but that's not a problem in my opinion.

DDR4 is quite affordable at 4000mhz at £100 or less, also Alder Lake (10nm desktop CPUs) will reportedly use DDR4 on low/mid end motherboards too.

I think the 10850k might be worth it for £300, pre-owned, quite close to the 5800x in many games.

Comet Lake 10 core CPUs and the 5800x are both too expensive in my view.

Some people are still trying to scalp the 11700K on auction sites, even though it can be pre-ordered elsewhere, hope no one pays the premium.

From the AMD webstore (direct buy)?

All the products on there are out of stock (at least in the UK)...

I kind of think people are exaggerating when they say the 5800X is readily available, this only applies if you are willing to pay above RRP.

You can buy a Ryzen 5600X from the US for roughly ~£270.

The performance is very good, but it 'only' has 6 cores, I'd rather have a 8/10 core CPU.

Haha, no 8 core Rocket Lakes are not good value. Nor is the 5800X, it's as simple as that.

It doesn't bode well for Alder Lake pricing.

6 core Rocket Lake CPUs are OK value, but probably aren't an improvement on Comet Lake.

Intel still got Comet Lakes to sell :p

I definitely agree that many new console to PC ports will be (/are) optimized for 8 CPU cores. Cyberpunk 2077 for example. And Resident Evil VII. I'm sure there are many more.
