Ryzen 7 5800x or ryzen 9 5900x for gaming?

I am building a new custom water cooled gaming pc mainly for use on my sim rig. I will be using 32gb ram an amd 6800 graphics card and was thinking of using a ryzen 7 5800x cpu or would I be better getting the ryzen 9 5900x?

For pure gaming, 5800x.

But if you ever plan on using any production software or anything that uses multiple cores the 5900x is a no brainer.
 
Came to recommend 5800X
Gaming performance wise pretty equal to 5900X.

Custom cooling will be wasted on it tho. There is not much power to cool, but it will get hot regardless.
 
WoW Shadowlands 1080p 3800 c16 5800x beat the 5950x why would anyone buy an £800 cpu? Seriously £800? I can not bend my head around that price i used to buy my CPU for so little. E6300, Q6600, P3 800mhz, 3570k, 2500M. Some of these were £50!


Do not ruin the market anymore or the next one will be £1000 cpu.

I am not paying £800 I would rather buy the 5800x or 5900x and use the change from the £800 to put towards a graphics card.
 
The general consensus is 5800x for gaming and 5900x or higher (ignoring the 5600x for the moment as this was not asked about in OP) if you do gaming and some sort of productivity like video editing as the extra cores and small price difference (in a normal world) upto the 5900x.
Ignore the future proofing arguement its nonsense. A quad core CPU would still be fine for gaming for years to come so an 8 core is more than enough.

I went for the 5800x simply because the 5900x bundle was £250 more and I didnt think the extra money for the 5900x would be worth it. (got mine from the black shirts if interested)

Processor is much less important (almost irrelevant) at 4K versus 1080p, GPU is a much bigger factor.

If you’re only gaming then I’d go 5800 unless you also edit videos, do rendering or other creative stuff.
