Hi, sorry if this isn't the right thread and if this was asked before, I used search bar to make sure it hadn't. I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D on pre-order, does anybody (@Gibbo) know how long it usually takes for the order to be delivered? I also have a pair of 8pack's RAMs on pre-order. Thanks for the info.

You could ask if you can swap them out for these (both showing as in stock)?

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £252.97 (includes delivery: £3.99)

If its these RAM sticks you have ordered..

I have them with my 5800X3D and they have been solid from day one at stock settings.. no issues at all, even when paired with my 5700X before the X3D.

The timings are just so much better than that cheaper kit too.

I would also do this.

As has already mentioned, not worth paying another £100 for the 5800X3D and you could try the tighter timings on the cheaper RAM as they are very overclockable (or they used to be). Failing that you should be able to get 3800MHz out of them.

You then have £140 to spend on something else. :)

I understand your logic behind what you are saying. I could save money for a bit of performance loss, and put it towards a GPU upgrade for example. My original plan was to upgrade to 9800X3D once released, but after underwhelming reviews of the new generation for the desktop PC, I changed my mind. Twice actually. I also wanted to go with 7800X3D on AM5 platform, and that wouldn’t be much more expensive than my choice of staying on AM4 with 5800X3D. But I opted for the AM4 platform and my reasoning is as follows - I currently have a Ryzen 9 5900X, so I don’t want the CPU swap become a downgrade. Hence the most expensive AM4 X3D processor and a DDR4 kit with tight timings. I’m planning to squeeze every possible performance reserve out of it as I am planning to stay on the platform until Zen 6 architecture arrives. I only play games and I had my 5900X running as a six-core with one CCD disabled for better fps count in games, while also have the system energy efficient and cool.

I am mulling over the same thing with my 5800x, do I move to a 5700x3d or wait, right now as no one knows about the 5 series Nvidia card I am temped to wait, in theory running at 2k ultrawide 165mhz the mhz of the cpu isn’t the main factor so a step down wouldn’t hurt

I wasn’t going to bother but the reason I did was due to being able to sell the 5800X for the same as I paid for the 5700X3D so in essence it’s a free 15-20% upgrade.

I’ll be upgrading to AM5 or Arrow lake soon anyway and this pc will go to the kids but in the meantime I’ll have a new chip to play around with while I wait for some price drops on the new stuff.

I can understand what you're saying, but the difference between these CPUs is practically indistinguishable outside of benchmarks and the same goes for timings between the CL16/CL18 8Pack kits, especially since the X3D (like all X3D CPUs) has low sensitivity to memory speed.

The 5700X3D is just a discount in another name, the same way the 5700X was to the 5800X.

The only time I'd give it any kind of serious thought, would be if you play competitive FPS games at low settings/resolutions, but from your sig your monitor is 1440p ultrawide.

In the longer-term, the gap between CPUs shrinks, so giving them higher clocks and faster memory still sees them utterly crushed by a CPU that has 40% higher IPC. You will almost certainly need to upgrade either of those CPUs around the same time.
