it works exactly the same as base clock on old amd cpu's, apart from you north bright, ht link are in the cpu, its not rocket science the reason why its better to do base vs multi with ryzen atm is because you can run the 2400mhz ram sub timingswhile the ram is running at 3200, so the timings for 3200mhz are way tighter than if you run the ram speed at 3200mhz.

See on page 151 of that thread, a guy has 3600Mgz with timings of CAS 14. Dang. Has his bus at 135.
