Ryzen or 7th gen i5 build?

Thinking about a couple of new builds.

One would be using a Ryzen 1700 with an RX480 4GB, 8GB DDR4 and an m.2 SSD for the boot drive. I understand that it's relatively unknown as to Ryzen's performance with a particular graphics card.

The second specification would be an Intel i5 7400 paired with 8GB DDR4, an Nvidia 1060 3GB and again with an m.2 boot drive.

What are your immediate thoughts? The Intel build works out a little cheaper.

Would a 480w PSU be sufficient in either case to ensure stability?

Don't buy a 3GB GTX 1060. I would take a 4GB RX 480 over a 3GB GTX 1060 anyday. Ideally though you would want the 6GB 1060 or 8GB 480.

Keep the system you have now and buy a 1070/1080/1080ti, it'll cost less and be just as good performance if you overclock that 2500k.

the Ryzen looks good on paper but i think i will wait a few months to see what happens with it. If it is as good as everyone is saying then great but also i think it will bring the price of Intels I5 and i7 chips down which would also be great.

A 480w PSU will be fine for the Intel/1060 or 1070 cards as they are lower power. Not sure on the AMD/ATI as i am out of touch as i have been using intel for the passed 8 or so years.

I'm in a similar situation with the upgrade itch. I really struggle to justify £silly on a new CPU, Mobo and Memory so am thinking of going to a 1440 monitor and a 1080ti. It seems that a 2500K is only a real bottleneck on the 1080p benchmarks I've seen for gaming.
