Ryzen 1800X at default clock speed. idle power 64w load power 238w

Ryzen 1800X at 4.1ghz clock speed. idle power 65w load 284w

Intel 6900K standard clock speed. idle power 57w load 198w

infact the Ryzen 1700X use's more power at idle 64w and 170w load than a 5960X idle 56w load 175w

The ryzen like's some power, especially when over clocked.

Ryzen CPUs, even if 8 cores, use much less power than the Intel lineup.
Hell they even use less power than the overclocked 7700K

Back at my old company I worked for a year, we used Intel E5200 2 core in the office, updating huge accounts spreadsheet on Excel 2003 used to take like 5+ minutes, seemed like an ******* eternity when you just want to get on with your work.

You think that's bad...place I used to work, we'd have to ring up the computer office (they weren't called IT back then) to load up different programs (tape based) for different tasks! Would take around twenty minutes before we could use the terminal!

Luxury! When I was a lad I'd dream of calling the IT department, who'd come down and cut our heads off and stick them on a pike, IF WE WERE LUCKY!

my 3770k overclocked to 4.6ghz does not use more than 75watts heck i don't think ive seen it top 70 never mind 75. So how that graph shows 150watts is amazing. Must be total system usage.

It's expected that the R7 will use more power when its overclocked, its built for efficiency which it is extremely good at when within the limitations of the cpu, between 3.3 and 3.7ghz its incredibly efficient but as you crank up the frequency it goes from being efficient to being very power hungry.

afaik its one of the most efficient cpu's about for power/performance providing 1000 cinbench R15 points for just 35 watts which is incredible for a render farm.

In the "when I were a lad" stakes, you're going to loose sooooo badly...:-)
try compiling code on a 4Mhz 8086 machine the size of a washing machine and finding out after 45mins that you had an error in your code and it won't compile.
